I completely agree.
Is going to Disney world 4 or so times a year, every year for me? No. But I would never begrudge anyone from doing so.
I don't think anyone really cares how these people spend their money per se... (so as I see it at least) I think they're just ringing in with their opinions.
If they do care that much, they should get over it if it's not having any financial effect on them!

i agree. Every few months, there's a new "I don't get the big deal about Disney"... and each time i wonder what the purpose of the thread is  I mean, i doubt that anyone here that likes disney world is 'crazed' to the point that they've named their children Mickey, minnie, goofy and pluto... i doubt that most people that go to WDW even watch the cartoons on the disney channel... and, more than anything, i doubt that the person that starts these threads wants to hear the reasons WHY they should start to like disney.. they 'don't get it' and they dont want to... so why start the thread?
I don't mean it to sound snotty, but if you're not into 'disney'... then don't be into it... no one said you had to... but what's the point in commenting on where people go on vacation and starting a thread just to say so? People work hard for their money, they earn their vacations- why judge what they do with that time and money?

I havent gone since I was 15 yrs old but we are going next March with the kids for a family reunion with DHs family. I guess we will be doing other stuff too like Nickelodeon, my DS is dying to go there. My Mother is a Mickey Mouse lover though. Mickey (first name basid here) is like a member of the family in some ways. To each their own...I have no problem if it brings people joy.

I've never understood it either.
I don't agree with the huge marketing campaign to children. I'm pretty "anti-character" merchandising whether it's Disney or not. They don't need such an early introduction into our consumer culture.
As for Epcot... I'd rather take them to the actual foreign country.
I've never been one for "packaged" vacations... I'm anti-resort, anti-cruise. I'd rather go an experience the real culture.

You know, many people would LOVE to take their kids to europe and experience different cultures but the truth of the matter is that most couples cannot afford that.
Disney provides an affordable and fun time for families and even couples looking to get away and have a great time. So what if some people love it to the point of going all the time?? Who cares?
I don't see the big deal with other places people find so fascinating...and while I haven't been to disney since I'm 8, I can't wait to go back and experience it with my kids.
Its also a comfort and tradition for many people to do the same trips...camping, outerbanks, etc...nothing wrong with it!

I mean sure, I like it as much as the next person. But the people who go there every year (or more than once a year) and thats all they ever do for a vacation. Why? Wouldn't they like to see some other places??
I think some of my anti-disneyness comes from the sick obsession my ex-bf's family had with it, but still I don't get it.
I feel the same way! I don't understand why adults obsess about it, unless of COURSE they have children. My cousin got married there, and goes back TWICE a year with her dh. They don't have kids! What IS that?

My DH and I went to Disney for our honeymoon...granted it wasnt our first choice...we were going on a 2 week cruise around Italy but then 9/11 happened and we cancelled....but I didnt think it was that horrible to go to Disney!!
We had a GREAT time and there were plenty of "adult" things to do as well as kid stuff that you didnt have to feel like an azz doing the kids stuff!
I dont understand how anyone can hate Disney...the happiness place on earth!

I was obsessed with Disney as a kid... and even convinced my parents to take us when I was like 19 and my brother was 14..
BUT, I havent been back since because I KNOW once I have kids I will want to take them there a few times, and there are 10000 places I want to get to before I have kids, so I dont want to "waste" my vacation time on a trip to Disney until I actually have kids.
I've "wasted" it instead on seeing about 20 different countries in the past 7 years. 
But as soon as I pop out some lil' ones and they become old enough to appreciate it, my butt is on the first flight to Orlando.
It's just not practical now for DH & I to go there when there is so much of the world to see.....

anywho, everyone who says there is rampant judgement on here is right. for better or for worse, it's what people do...they judge and assume they are being judged in return.
sometimes an opinion is just that...one's opinion based on one's own beliefs.
not understanding the allure of Disney for grownups is not necessarily judging those that DO understand the allure. (or anything else for that matter)
anyway, tell Aladdin I said hi...we hit it off last time I was there
