how much would you give... (wedding we can't make)

I hate to raise this topic but i really don't know what's appropriate.

DH's co-worker is getting married in July. We cannot attend. This is not a close friend and not someone we've known for long at all. Sat. night wedding, pretty fancy place.

I have no idea. If we were going, we'd probably give $300.

Please don't say "whatever you're comfortable giving"... throw some numbers at me! Chat Icon

I would probably just give 200 bc thats what I think is a decent gift regardless of if you are going or not.

Hmm, if its someone you aren't close with at all I would probably get a registry gift, around 100 or so.

I usually send a place setting or something nice from the registry if I can't attend.

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately I have no idea where they registered (nothing was sent with the invite and i'm not aware of a wedding website or anything...) so it will need to be cash, or else a non-registry gift.

Any suggestions for a non-registry gift? Maybe i'm better off doing that than cash...

Check bed bath and beyond and macys. I would say those are the two most popular places I would think.

Cash/check I would probably do $100/$150

there's a website where you can type in one of their names and it will tell you where they are registered. but i'm syre it's one of a few places that you can easily narrow down: macy's, BBB, williams and sonoma, crate & barrel.

i'd probably send $100 to $150. never thought of a registry gift, that's not a bad idea (for my future reference!)

Look for a wedding registry on Wedding Channel. Most stores link to that. I would then send a place setting or similar. If you can't find anything then I would send $100-150.

I don't get it: you are NOT going but still planing on giving them a monetary gift even though they are not close friends and you haven't known them that long?

I would just politely decline and move on. Would never thought of actually giving them something.

If I wasn't going and I wasn't that close to them, I would send either $100 or $150

I agree with the above posters, if you can find where they're registered, you can send them a gift from there.

We got a few gifts from my bridal registry sent to us from guests that could not attend. I thought it was very nice of them

It's nice of you to even gesture. People who declined my wedding did not give anything and I didn't expect them too. It's DH co-worker not family, I thinkits nice to just get something small off the registry. I would not do cash

Just did this. It was my neighbor's daughter whom I never exchanged more then a "hello" with or seen in at least a yr. I declined wedding invite and do no plan on sending a gift.

Honestly, I wouldn't send anything. If there was a work-related shower, I would buy a gift for that.

I agree. Or maybe just send something little off their registry (if you can find it).

Thank you for this, I thought I was the only one! This is what I would honestly do, but if your DH is friendly with her and you were so inclined, I could see buying her something small off the registry (like around $50- a nice frame for example).

Agreed. I would send something for a family member or friend, but not for DH's co-worker.
