Re: how much would you give... (wedding we can't make)
Wow thanks for all the responses! My mom always said you had to send a gift if you didn't attend the wedding, so i suppose that's where i'm getting it from lol. At least I have a few good ideas from everyone now. And ETA, i don't get the feeling we were invited as seat fillers or anything like that.

We didn't receive gifts from people that didn't attend our wedding, so I say $0.
Same! I am actually shocked that people would give gifts to someone they aren't close with if unable to attend. And just because you got a wedding invite from a co-worker doesn't automatically mean you are close, maybe you're a seat-filler

So true!! I want a second wedding and invite all you girls.
That's what I always think when these posts come up:
"Hey guys, need advice. I met someone at the supermarket in the bakery section and was invited to their wedding.
It's a Saturday night in July at Oheka.
I only met them for 5 minutes and am going to their wedding. It's just me and my DH going.
Is like, $500 enough? or should I give more?"

I always give the exact same gift I'd give if we were going. I'd give $300 or $350.

For someone I don't know, regardless of where its held, I would send $100. Its a generous gift considering most people who decline don't send any gift at all.
I have also sent a place setting from a registry as well if I did not attend a wedding.

Re: how much would you give... (wedding we can't make)
At our wedding we received a lot of high amount/ long island wedding culture gifts- most couples gave $350- $500 and still the average for non-attenders was maybe $75. I think I only got one "no" that had $100 and many were $50.
