Forward Facing Car Seat when do you make the switch?
DD is 13 months and I feel like her feet hit the back of the seat. I know you are supposed to switch the car seat foward facing based on weight, but what about height?? I dont' want her to be uncomfy. What did you do.

ds is 20 months. his legs are bent and he never complains. I plan on keeping him rear facing until his 2 year birthday. For me safety trumps comfort.

I switched my DD at 14 months, she was very tall and over 20lbs. Do whatever you're comfortable with.

Re: Forward Facing Car Seat when do you make the switch?
Loey is pretty tall and big. His feet are definitely scrunched up against the back seat and he's a bit uncomfortable, but we are keeping him that way as long as we can. He's 18 months now.

Ditto! (except my son is 17 months.) Most kids don't mind if their legs are bent or if they have to rest them higher on the seat. My son sits cross legged in his seat and us happy as a clam!

Re: Forward Facing Car Seat when do you make the switch?
DS is very tall, at 35" at 15m we switched him because he was "saying" hurt (signing it). Honestly, not sure if he understand what hurt means, but he uses it when he's hot or cold, or just uncomfortable. And add to that, screeching crazy screaming the entire ride in the car. I felt I couldn't keep him rear facing.
I was so torn about the decision, I really wanted to keep him rear facing forever. But we don't drive to often and when we do, its local trips at max 40 mph.
Its sad, because I feel like we wont be safe on highways, and I will be a nervous wreck when we go on our weekend getaways.
eta: I forgot his height (how could I)

Re: Forward Facing Car Seat when do you make the switch?
With DD#1 the recommendation was 12months and 20lbs. She was miserable rear facing so as soon as we found out she was 20lbs at her 1yr appt we switched her.
DD#2 is 15mos now and she's still rear facing. I plan on keeping her that was as long as possible. I'm hoping to make it until 2yo. I don't think she's bothered by her feet touching the seat, they sit in all kinds of weird positions out of the car so I'm not worried.

Re: Forward Facing Car Seat when do you make the switch?
DD is currently 18 months and she is still rear facing... we plan on keeping her that way until she is 2, the new recommendation.
Her legs are bent and her feet touch the seat, but kids are much more flexible than we are and she doesn't know any different.
There are no studies showing that rear facing children with squished legs have any issues with their legs in crashes. Even if there were, I would rather a broken leg than a broken neck.

DS is big and tall but we are planning on keeping him rear facing as long as possible. His safety is more important to me than if he has to scrunch a bit in the car seat.

Re: Forward Facing Car Seat when do you make the switch?
DS is 18 months, 31 lbs, and 38 inches, and I still have him rear facing. I asked the pd if she thought he was too tall to be rear facing, and she said to keep him that way for as long as I could. He doesn't complain at all.

Re: Forward Facing Car Seat when do you make the switch?
DS is almost 22 months and still rear facing. He's pretty tall for his age and his feet do hit the back though I wonder if he has a long torso/short legs, b/c he doesn't seems scrunched really - or maybe it's just his seat (True Fit) is more roomy that way but he's pretty ok with it.
Sometimes we have a hard time getting him in but I think it's b/c he hates to be confined anyway. He sleeps a lot of the time in the car, so I will keep him RF as long as possible.

Re: Forward Facing Car Seat when do you make the switch?
I turned DD around at 26 months. She sat cross-legged in her chair before that. She complains about the car seat just as often now (in her brand new Recaro), as she did rear facing and forward facing in her Graco Comfortsport.

Wow, guess she has a way to go rearfacing then and she hasn't complained so we will keep it as is. Thanks!

Re: Forward Facing Car Seat when do you make the switch?
I'm not planning to switch DS until he complains. He's 1 now and 26lbs (at least), but he has short legs.
I switched my DD on her first birthday bc she had been screaming every time I put her in the car for a month before.

I just turned her FF at a little over 2.5. I actually wanted to keep her RF longer, but DH was always saying she looked so cramped.

Not doing it until DD is 2. I'd rather broken legs than a broken neck if we ever got into an accident

I'm in the minority but DS#1 was turned at 11 months & DS#2 will be turned at 13-14 months. I am not waiting until 2.
DH & I are confident in our decision

RF as long as possible My boys were always happy. I only switched them around 2 because they were at the rear facing limit of their seats(35 lbs, Britax Marathon)
