fake nails

so what do we think... are they 'out'? ive had nails for a while, not toooo happy with they way they look lately (a little too fakey) but i know that if i take them off and get manis im going to get frustrated that it doesnt last long enough and to be honest, my fill ins every two weeks are the same price as a mani once a week (fill in is 25 and mani is about 10 - need to get 2 manis in the time i would get one fill in) and my mani doesnt even last a week!

so yay or nay on fake nails? should i take them off??

ok discuss. Chat Icon

Re: fake nails

They are not as popular as they once were. I took mine off for a while and could not tolerate it. My "real" nails were sharp like razor blades and the polish never lasts. I think natural looks great but I'm not doing it.

Re: fake nails

I have silk wraps over my real nails & have no intentions of getting rid of them. I use to have strong regular nails but all of a sudden they got brittle. My fingers looks strange without nails, so regardless if fake is in or out, I will be sticking with it

Re: fake nails

I had pink and white acrylic for 3 years now, and before that just plain acrylic to paint. I took them off 2 weeks ago and my nails are 'healing'. They really look bad right now. Chat Icon but I am trying to go more natural right now.

Re: fake nails

Nay to fake nails...Yay to natural

I rarely see anyone getting them done when I go and get a manicure. I also feel like no matter how much you try they still look fake - you can't get that "natural" look no matter which route you go.

Re: fake nails

Maybe cut them so they are shorter so they don't seem as fake to you.. that's what I always did when I had wraps on.

Re: fake nails

I have the silk wraps on now. I cut them short so they look like my real nails. I love how my nail lady does it. I only put them on for special occasions. I can't keep up with them every 2 weeks and the money. Its too much. For my wedding I had them on for 2 years to get used to them. I took them off last summer and had them put back on for my cousins wedding and will probably take them off in the summer again.

Re: fake nails

I don't foresee fake nails going "out of style".

My nails don't grow and are very thin so I find myself cutting/scratching my children when my nails are natural (despite being short). I used to have my nails done so they looked real (no color) and most people didn't know any better because I kept them short.

Now I'm "sexing" it up and wear them mid-length, round/oval shaped and red and get lots of compliments on them (men & women). Chat Icon

You have to do what works for you and what you think looks nice! (But then again, I'm never one to follow fashion trends.)

Re: fake nails

I have a permanent french manicure. I love them. I keep them relatively short. I always get compliments on them.

I tried to go natural but it just didn't work for me. My nails are stubby and don't really grow nicely.

Do what you want. Try it without the nails for a while. You can always go back.

Re: fake nails

My nails never grew because they were constantly breaking - it was so annoying and I hated the way my hands looked. So I started wearing wraps and then acrylic (over the years I alterated between these).

It got to the point where it was (1) too expensive, and (2) that I felt like a slave to them, lol. I mean, if I didn't have them done every two weeks, they looked horrible with the growth, and I felt like my schedule revolved around when I had to go get my nails done.

So I stopped, took it all off, and started using Nailtiques. After a few months, my nails had strength to them and I could actually let them grow without breaking! It's been YEARS since I took them off and I wouldn't go back. I'd rather do a quick sheer pink coat of nailpolish if my polish has chipped off than know that I HAVE to go every two weeks to get my filings etc. But that's just my own very long winded experience and feeling Chat Icon

Ditto! Too much $$$ and time to maintain. I'd work with your own nails, eventhough it might not be as attractive at 1st.

Re: fake nails

I always tend to go back to my fakes - i get so frustrated with my real nails not holding polish for more than a couple of hours - i have the french acrylics - i love them.

Re: fake nails

I have my own nails...wrapped. They are a medium to longish length.

Do what YOU like...I never care what is supposed to be "in" or not. If you like 'em, get 'em.

I like my nails. It took 35 years to grow them (I always bit them, but stopped about a year ago), and I'm proud of them. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: fake nails

I have had fake nails for about 10yrs now. I try to take them off, but then my nails rip and tear. It hurts! I keep them short and natural looking. Fills every 2wks and I get color. My real nails are just so brittle and they always have been. I hate the obvious fake nails, but most people don't think mine are fake, just that I get manicures a lot! I really think it depends on how you do them and why they are on.
