Re: fake nails

I was a slave to them in HS for about 4 years. At that time I was a student and a part-time worker, so I had tons of time to go every two weeks and sit there for hours. After HS, I took them off because college became expensive and I couldn't afford to keep up with them. When I took off the acrylic I thought I ruined my nails forever!!! It took over a year to let them grow out to the point there weren't ANY bumps on them and then started to file and pain them weekly. NOW my nails grow so strong that they are even stronger than acrylic, but they're my own!

I vote go natural and let them breathe! :)

Re: fake nails

I don't see too many women with fake nails anymore. but I am not sure if that means they're "out".

I used to have silk wraps for YEARS! I finally got sick of the upkeep many yrs ago. I used to get manis every week, but like you said, it gets frustrating when the polish chips after 5 days or less.

I now do them myself. I keep them on the shorter side now, trim every other week and 99% of the time, I just wear clear. every now and then I will get a mani or put on a color myself. but honestly, I really can't be bothered with chipped polish.

I will NEVER give up pedis though!!! Chat Icon

Re: fake nails

I had my own nails wrapped for a very long time, and like you I got tired of them and felt they were too "fake" looking and out of style.

So, I started getting manis on a weekly basis, and my nails got stronger, but there was nothing I could do to keep the polish from chipping.

I know this sounds strange, but b/c of what I do as a profession, chipped polish just doesn't say too much about me, so as of a month ago, I got my own nails wrapped and keep them SUPER short...to the point that my salon thinks it's pointless...

Here's what they look like, and I never have chipped nail polish!

LOVE IT!

Re: fake nails

I have acrylic over my nails and keep them as short as possible (similar to PP). I'm going to be taking them off next month. It's not that I don't like them, but I've had the acrylic on for like 4 or 5 years now and it's just so expensive. I too feel like a slave to the fill-ins. I figure I'll take it off and if necessary, I can always put it back on.

Re: fake nails

Not sure if they are out per se, I just find them to be a pain to maintain. If I go for a manicure every 2 weeks my nails grow just as long. I also am not a fan of all the chemicals they use, I do not think it is too healthy to do consistently.

these look really good! this is how mine used to look but as the new set turns into fill in after fill in they just get faker and faker for me!
i think im going to take them off bc:

1. too fake looking
2. slave to the fill ins
3. $$$$

i know im going to get pissy when my manicures chip but ill deal. maybe ill just bring the color with me every time.
thanks everyone Chat Icon
