Dyson - why is it so great?
So I received some gift cards and have been thinking about getting a new vacuum. I keep hearing about Dyson, but have no idea why they are so great. Are they really worth the money? Please tell me why you love your Dyson. Thanks so much!

Re: Dyson - why is it so great?
I have had my Dyson for 5 years now and I am not sure I would get another one. It still works, but I feel like I have to take scissors to the bottom roller to get hair out of it all of the time. I am not sure if I would have to do that to any other vacuum, but I feel like there are some design flaws to it that I would change. Namely, the hole that s*ucks in the dirt I would make a lot bigger because although there is a large roller the hole is about an inch or two wide and that is so small.

I tend to think they are overrated... Never had one but when shopping for a new vac, i looked through tons of reviews and some more inexpensive vacs topped dyson so i def dont get all the hype

I hate mine. So much so that I make DH vacuum now. I dont think it works any better than the $100 Hoover we used to have. I really dont see the big attraction to it, and would never buy another one.

Re: Dyson - why is it so great?
I LOVE mine!! I had another one (forget which brand) before my Dyson and it was such a POS compared to mine now. I just feel like it sucks up soooo much more then my other one was able to. WHich is good for spots you cant reach all the way bc it will pull everything in as opposed to my other one which wouldnt be able to reach everything. I would say it's totally worth it.
The only thing I would add though is that I wouldnt get the one that is on the ball for "better manuvurability" It just kinda felt cheap to me. Just my opinion.

I have one, the animal. Yes, it does pick up a lot but you have to service it a lot...clean out the filters, etc. to keep the suction.
Not sure I'd get another.

Re: Dyson - why is it so great?
I have a Dyson. I'd never buy another one. They cost 3 times as much as other vacuums, but don't do the job any better. Sure it's bright yellow and cool-looking, but that British guy on TV who claims it "doesn't lose suction"? He's lying. I have to go over the same spots on the carpet 3 times or so to get up lint / hairs and stuff. My old $100 Electrolux was better than that!

Wow, thanks ladies. Definitely won't waste my money on a dyson after reading all these reviews. Now on to research another vacuum.

Re: Dyson - why is it so great?
All of this info was very helpful ! I registered for a Dyson and actually got it as a gift but I havent opened it yet. I have been debating whether or not to keep it, because there are a lot more items I can get with the $400 ! After reading all of these reviews I think I will return it !

I would never buy any bagless vacuum. You want to get RID of the dust, dust mites, etc and you cannot do that with a bagless, no matter what brand.

Re: Dyson - why is it so great?
We have one and I love it EXCEPT for the fact that it is bagless. I hate bagless vacs but it's hard to find a good vac with a bag. I empty it out in the garage only-but still.
I have the Ball one and it doesn't feel cheap to me, it picks up much better than the vacuum I used to have (that one used to spit up all the time, gross).

I have the Electrolux Oxygen 3 - it has a bag and it is great. Best vacuum I've ever owned. I used to have a dyson bagless but my skin allergies were terrible every time I emptied it.

my parents have the dyson and have to do the same thing.. cutting the hair off the rollers
Also i dont like the way you empty the canister the dirt gets everywhere when emptying it.
I have a kenmore canister that I think works much better

Re: Dyson - why is it so great?
I just got one. I was lucky enough to pay 1/2 price through a family member's discount, otherwise, I probably wouldn't have splurged. We have the Animal Ball. We've only had it for 2 weeks, but I have to say that I love it so far. Granted, our old vacuum stunk, but it was like I never vacuumed before. My low-pile carpets looked almost a different color!
I have a dog with long hair, so it's always an uphill battle. i'll be interested to see if I'll have to cut the hair out at some point, but for now, I'm a happy camper.

If anyone wants a really good vac go Kirby!! They are the best. Pricey but, we have had ours (it was Dh's before we got married) 8 years and it still kicks a**

Re: Dyson - why is it so great?
We bought my mom the Dyson Animal and it's terrible. So not worth the hype IMO.
I prefer either the Oreck or Hoover Commercial Vac.
