I have never asked for money. My parents are really generous and have done a lot for us, but I would never ask them for money for frivolous things. I could never imagine asking my mom for money to buy a new purse or shoes or something else not necessary.

hey dad I want a new gucci bag would be met with 
hey dad I'm in trouble I need some $$$$.....is completely different and very acceptable in my family
my dad is helping me clean up the mess of my former life now and I am very greatful and he will be paid back
but I would never borrower money and then go on vacation like some people in my family.....

I have had to ask my dad to borrow some money even since I have been unemployed but I always pay him back. I hate to do it but I know that he understands why I have to ask.

Never ever ever. To be honest I am a little more "secure" than my mom- she is retired and on a fixed income. Same thing for DH's Dad, he is also on a very limited income.
ETA: My mom does help us out in other ways though- she will be watching our LO for us next year- free of charge!

I have never asked for money from them even in hard times.
I don't like owing anything to anyone. I would work 2-3 jobs before asking.
DH used to help his dad once in a while with his CC so no, he never asked. They both passed so that will not be happening.
