Re: Do you ask your parents for money?
I did once - I had to and I'm not ashamed of it. I needed to move out of the apt I had with my xh. I had next to nothing at the time because he had nearly no income and every dime I made went to supporting us.
I'm grateful that they were willing and able to help.
They won't hear of me paying them back so I'm saving to send them away on a trip for their 35th anniversary in 2 years.

Re: Do you ask your parents for money?
No. We just finished paying back money we borrowed for our wedding and I hated every minute of it. My parents would certainly give it to us, but I feel like DH and I are adults now with jobs. We probably make more then my parents do. If anything my parents could benefit from asking us for money.

I think that is a totally different situation.
That was out of necessity and totally understandable.
The OP is talking about 20 something guys who live on their own and still go and ask mom & dad for money to play with on the weekends and what not, even though they work and earn money full time.

Never.
They have given money as Christmas, birthday but we'd have to be in dire straits to ask for it.
Here too.

Re: Do you ask your parents for money?
No. I've been making my own money since HS. While I was living home they paid for the necessities but I never asked for money. Now that I'm living on my own, they will ask me from time to time if I need money. I know they would help me anytime for anything at all but I never ask. I wouldn't hesitate if I REALLY needed it for rent or something major though

Re: Do you ask your parents for money?
No, never. When my Mom was alive, she would drop by with groceries or pick me up clothes she thought I would like. I tried to pay her back but she never took it. She always told me it was her money and if she wanted to spend it on her daughter, she would.
With our IL's, never. When I'm out with MIL, she'll always pick something up for the boys (clothes, toys, etc) but, again, it's never something we ask them to do.

Re: Do you ask your parents for money?
No I do not. I also think there is a huge difference between someone who borrows money once or twice for something important (down payment, moving, school, etc) and a person who is dependent on their parents to pay for things for them.
DH's business partner is the latter. He has never paid a bill in his life. He has no clue who his car payment is through, how much his insurance is, etc. He puts everything on a credit card and his dad gets the bill. This is a 29 year old man.

Re: Do you ask your parents for money?
The only time we ever asked for money was when my DH was laid off and his parents gave us money to pay down some of our debt so we could make our bills.
Otherwise on a daily basis or regaular basis, no.

Re: Do you ask your parents for money?
I never ask my parents for money.
I do not judge those who accept money from their parents though. For example, when it comes time for DH and I to sell our coop and buy a home, my father and mother are going to give us a large sum of money to buy it. They offered it, we accepted it. They can afford to help us and WANT to help us. If money was an issue for them, or I felt they were doing without to give to us I would say no.
As far as asking for money to live? thank god DH and I make good salaries and do not need money from them to live but if we needed it they would give it to us.

No, never. Not even for my wedding.
I have also never had that luxury. My family does not have it to give.

Re: Do you ask your parents for money?
nope. but my dad has offered, or rather insisted, that he give me $$ here and there. my mom picks up stuff for our pups and misc stuff at shoprite or costco for us. my bf's parents pretty much stock our fridge and cabinets when they come to visit (which is every few months since they are out of town). We appreciate everything but never expect it or insist upon it.
