Did your parents ask for a key to your Home/Apt?
Is this something you have done? Gave a key to your parents.
And please don't move this to "Home" LIF police....
It has nothing to do with "Where Long Island Families can communicate regarding home buying, renting, decorating and home improvements."

haha on your disclaimer.
My mom has keys for emergencies and when we're away (check apt, water plants, etc). I would NOT give MIL keys. I don't trust her.

we gave my in-laws a key when we moved here, and reason being is we had a cat who needed to be fed and the litter changed when we went on vacation.
it helps that they have their key esp when emergencies arise and then need to either pick a kid up from school or get one off the bus.

No and nor will they ever receive one.
We did give one to my In laws because they live close by. In case of emergency, we would call them, not my parents.

I think SOMEBODY should have a key to your place, for emergencies. Whether or not it should be parents is something one should decide by him/her self. My parents alway had keys to our old apartment, Unfortunately, that resulted in my father showing up unannounced and just opening the door with his spare key. So, in our next place he will be losing his spare key privileges...

Nobody asked for a key, we gave one to my mom to have for emergencies and when we are away. She has never used it for anything else and never would.
I think its important for someone to have a spare key. Doesn't have to be parents

My parents have the code to my garage doors. I don't think they ever asked, it kind of just happened. There was a time when they needed to watch our pets a lot so i think that's how it started.

My parent's did not ask but after DH locked himself out I gave them a set for emergencies or he next time DH locks himself out and I am stuck at work for hours

I gave a set to my aunt and uncle, and a set to my BFF. No one asked for a set but sometimes they let my dogs out. I have keys to their houses as well.

No one asked, but both sets of parents have copies of our keys. My ILs live nearby and will take in the mail when we're away. My parents really have no need for them, but I wanted them to have them anyhow.

My MIL has a key & so does one of our closest friends. Neither asked for it, but they both will look in on our pets while we're away. DH & I also just feel more comfortable knowing in case of an emergency, someone can get in. We trust them both completely.
