I am not going to quote because it's getting too long.
FWIW, I do not countenance loitering and vandalism. However, any and all forms of peaceful protest have my full support.
Years ago when I first saw the athletes kneeling, I'll admit I cringed. But really, what's more cringe worthy - the treatment of black and brown people every day in this country, or a peaceful gesture of protest at a football game?
I don't have a problem with people being upset about the protests. I get how seeing that can elicit a visceral reaction. But if you (general you) care MORE about that than you do about institutional oppression that allows many black and brown people to suffer every day in this country - and sometimes even be killed - then you are a racist.

What kills me about the whole discussion around Kapernick and the protests is that people assume if you're 'for' the protesting, that you're somehow against cops.
I believe in the absolute right of Kapernick to protest and i will defend it to anyone who cares to discuss it AND i'm a full on supporter of our police force.
Believe it or not, its actually possible to do both

My opinion will probably be unpopular here but IDC I'm going to share it anyway:
Him wearing cops as pig socks made it really clear what he thinks of cops so yeah IMO he's a cop hater and applauding him means supporting him soo yeah I won't be applauding him at all. Also I have seen enough things and heard enough commentary to know that plenty of people who support him see cops as the bad guys . That said I am not blinded to the fact that our system has injustices that ABSOLUTELY need to be fixed. That also doesn't make me a racist contrary to what Kapernick supporters think. (see how the roles can be reversed here)
Honestly this whole protest has done nothing more than bring extra division to our country. I have seen absolutely nothing productive come out of this and as a matter of fact the hate and divisiveness runs deeper now than it has anytime I can remember in my 30+ years on this earth.

The divisiveness isn't deeper. You're just more aware of it, because people like Kaepernick and the other players that kneel and groups like Black Lives Matter are bringing awareness to it.
I honestly don't understand how wearing novelty socks means you must HATE cops. Maybe he doesn't have a positive view on cops, but there is no way you can determine from one pair of socks that he hates them, and I don't think the socks overrides every statement he's made.
I think that the problem is that so many people are trying to discredit Kaepernick or show why his protest isn't sincere, but in doing that they're also ignoring the legitimate issue he's trying to bring up. Even if Kaepernick is just an attention seeking jerk who couldn't play football if his life depended on it, he's still bringing up a real issue in our society. An issue that people like to ignore when it doesn't affect them, and an issue that many members of the police force and those that support them don't want discuss because they don't want to admit there is a problem.
A few rouge/bad officers isn't a systemic problem, but when the system doesn't take steps to protect the public from these officers and the officers don't face consequences for their actions, then the whole system is complicit in their acts (for the most part, the police are self-policing for officer discipline).
Any criticism of the police is met with an accusation that you don't support the police who put their lives on the line to protect the public, which just shuts down the whole discussion. But people should be able to criticize the police, and they should be able to point out areas that could be improved. You can criticize the police while still supporting them. In fact, a lot of ideas include things that would help make their jobs easier - more training, more equipment including non-lethal options, community policing, and removing the "bad apples" from service, which makes the good officers able to better do their jobs. Many of the shootings have involved either "green" officers who are scared, or veteran officers who have a long history of discipline.
Any criticism shouldn't be taken as an attack, and the police who are entrusted with a lot of power should be held to higher standard instead of a lower one.
But I feel like no one gets to a discussion about these issues, because instead the immediate issue is whether these kneeling players are being disrespectful to our flag during the faux show of patriotism and nationalism before a football game.
