I don't really buy Nike's anyway. There are many other brands that are much more comfortable.

They are too narrow for my feet and way overpriced IMO. But burning them over an ad? Please

My Dh and Ds wouldn’t have any shoes. I also found the most comfortable Nike flip flops and I wouldn’t burn them if they had S@tan in their ad

Exactly. If you want to protest something don't buy it in the future. But the ones you already own, Nike already has your money. So, news flash, you aren't hurting them. Only yourself

This seems to be the Right's go to protest - a bunch of people burned their NFL jersey's when the kneeling started, NRA members blew up their Yeti coolers, parents burned copies of Teen Vogue because it had an article about anal sex. OK, but you already bought all this stuff, so what does burning/destroying it accomplish. I saw someone suggest it's good for the economy because then all these people will have to go out a replace their gear (even if it's with a different company).
Obviously, they don't really understand the concept of an effective protest, since they're upset with Kaepernick to begin with. I've heard so many people say, "Why'd he need to protest it that way, couldn't he have just held a press conference or something not so in your face, or donated money" .... Um.. he did all those things too, you just didn't notice, which is why he did something high profile and controversial, because that's how you get attention for the cause. If a protest doesn't upset or inconvenience someone, it's pretty easy to ignore.

Re: #burnyournikes
interesting point about it being good for the economy... now they have to buy new stuff.
i would like someone to figure out how many people who burned their jerseys and their season tickets later had them replaced.
my opinion: these people who record themselves burning their stuff are in the same category of the people who record themselves doing the drake dance: i keep scrolling!
i don't buy nike sneakers because i prefer the fit of new balance... but i just might buy some nike graphic tees as christmas gifts for all my conservative, racist relatives

LOL i don't see anyone banning football. God no! Football is the be all end all in this world. Easier to burn a pair of sneakers than give up drooling in front of the TV eating garbage every Sunday for months on end

I know people, including my in-laws, who were regular football watchers and didn't watch last season at all (they still checked stats and participated in pools, but didn't watch the Sunday games). It was kind of nice going over to their house and not being forced to watch the game.
I'm curious to see how my mother in law is going to handle the Nike campaign, because she LOVES her Nikes and always buys them for my kids.

Oh man, I wish my family would ban football. Pleaseeeee! The mere sound of it only heightens my season affective depression because it reminds me of fall and winter. I hateeeee it! I hate having it on at all.

Its not about the protest (at least for me), its about him disrespecting the entire country and all of the people who have sacrificed for it. He didn't need to do it in that way, I'm all for effective protest, but this was beyond that.
I don't currently have any Nike products, but I certainly wouldn't destroy my own stuff because of this schm*ck.

Have you read about how he came to the decision to kneel? He did so after discussions with U.S. Army veteran Nate Boyer, who convinced him that kneeling would be a respectful way to peacefully protest, and when he started to respectfully kneel, then other players started to join in.
Here is the Snopes article explaining it Article
An excerpt from the article:
Kaepernick’s then-teammate Eric Reid joined him in kneeling for the protest prior to that game. He recalled the experience in an op-ed published by The New York Times on 25 September 2017: After hours of careful consideration, and even a visit from Nate Boyer, a retired Green Beret and former NFL player, we came to the conclusion that we should kneel, rather than sit, the next day during the anthem as a peaceful protest. We chose to kneel because it’s a respectful gesture. I remember thinking our posture was like a flag flown at half-mast to mark a tragedy.
So while you perceive it as disrespect, he's actually put effort into trying to be respectful and still get his point across.
I also love how people complain about Kaepernick not being respectful of the people who sacrificed for our country, while Trump may actually be destroying the VA and our country. Maybe people should be as worried about the policies in this country as whether football players stand or kneel. (This is general statement not specifically directed at quoted poster)

I’m ok with the protest. But that asshole deserves nothing after displaying pigs in cop uniforms on his socks, so no, he’s not respectful to anything or anyone. I’d fully back someone like Malcom Jenkins doing a Nike ad about protesting because that man is an amazing role model and puts his money and time his where his mouth is. But I’m also an eagles fan, so I’m sure there’s tons of other guys from other teams who I would have supported as well, but Kaepnick is a disgrace.

exactly! i won't bore you with an "i'm the mother of an active duty marine" speech, but i'll just say that one of the reasons i accepted his decision and the reason he serves is to PROTECT our RIGHT for PEACEFUL protest.

Really, because of socks???? Socks he wore at a practice before ever taking a public stance. Yeah, they may not have been the best decision, but I don't think his novelty socks negate everything he's done, everything he tries to stand for, the message he's trying to get across. He also puts his time and money where his mouth is (including continuing to put his money into causes after not being signed), and he literally sacrificed his career for it.
I just don't get the disdain for Kaepernick other than he tried to make white NFL fans aware of an issue in this country, but that made them uncomfortable so they hide behind him being disrespectful and unpartriotic. Even though our country was founded on the principles of free speech and peaceful protest, so it's about the most patriotic thing you can do, but instead we should force mandatory fake patriotism so we don't make anyone at home feel uncomfortable.
