Tomorrow is Election Day. I will vote for whoever says they will change gun laws. This has to stop. A church for crying out loud.

There is never a reason for a regular citizen to need an automatic rifle. I dont understand why they are even sold in gun shops. This guy evdiently walked into a gun shop and bought it. Why is that ok?! Shut these stores down or remove the rifles that have the capability of mass shootings! I understand there are rights but maybe for a pistol to protect yourself at best is all someone needs in my opinion. Im just sick over this. What kind of world are my kids growing up in? A five year old child was shot and killed in this church...I can't wrap my head around this.

I don't understand either. But apparently some people like to shoot this gun for "sport".
There was a discussion about it recently on one of threads after the Vegas massacre. You know the one just a month ago.

This guy was convicted of domestic abuse and had a dishonorable discharge from the military and shouldn't have been able to purchase a gun. Yet he did. And here we are.

Glad to know those thoughts and prayers are hard at work.

Sadly I agree.

We dont need tboughts and prayers. We need something to change.

Exactly.
I don't want your prayers once I am dead, thanks.
I want something to change while I am still alive.
But people need their guns so.....
Nothing will change.

ITA!!! EVERY time this happens all anyone says is "thoughts and prayers". What's the point? It doesn't help anything. It doesn't change anything. And it absolutely doesn't prevent these things from happening. Mass shootings are becoming entirely too commonplace in this country and ALL we seem to do is "send thoughts and prayers" instead of taking away guns and making better laws. You know, common sense things.

Jmo but saying a prayer is never a bad thing

Don't believe in it fine

Don't hate on those who do

And if I'm sending a prayer doesn't mean I'm not sick of this and want things to change

I always say a prayer for people but saying a prayer is NOT the answer to making this madness stop. Saying a prayer does not bring back 26 innocent lives. Saying a prayer is a nice sentiment but it will not stop some lunatic with a gun tomorrow. This is why people get annoyed especially when you have government officials using this as their response time after time.

I never said it did

But if someone wants to say a prayer for a life that was lost why hate on that

I can’t speak for everyone but for me and I think many others we are not hating on someone who says thoughts and prayers. I’ve said and will continue to pray for those families left behind. It’s ridiculous though when elected officials say thoughts and prayers. A thought or a prayer won’t do damn thing for the dead! It does not prevent the next deadly mass shooting. It doesn’t stop the fear I have of taking my kids to public places. Because a thought and prayer are just words and we need action. We needed action when 26 1st graders died in school. Instead we have done nothing! Someone mentioned it earlier a crazy lunatic ran over people with a truck we put up barriers in a few days. Hundreds of people are killer by guns and we says prayers. It doesn’t make sense.

ITA.

Nothing changed after Aurora.
Nothing changed after Sandy Hook.
Nothing changed after Las Vegas.

These mass shootings are becoming the norm. These mass shootings IS America.

How many more mass shootings until something is done? We now have categories for these mass shootings (i.e. worst school shooting, worst church shooting, etc.). This is just crazy and sick.

The GOP is not going to do anything for gun reform. They are bought and controlled by the NRA and they are just going to keep taking the money. The only thing they are willing to do for you, for you child, is to send thoughts and prayers after you're dead. Thoughts and prayers are not going to protect you from the next mass shooting. No matter how much you believe in prayer.

Prayers don't work, unless work is done.

I agree, but we need to change HIPPA laws. This guy apparently had some mental issues, and he is protected by these laws of HIPPA, so his background check will clear.

But yet Trump recently loosened regulation that would make it easier for people with mental health issues to purchase guns!!!

How the hell does that make any sense??!! How does that protect us???!!

"It's too soon to talk about gun control."...

NO!

This is the same conversation from 1 month ago, from 6 months ago, from one year ago, from 5 years ago, from 10 years ago....

Just because there's another shooting doesn't mean the "discussion about gun control" clock gets reset....

He also just said that it's not a gun issue, it's a mental health issue, but by him removing that regulation, his meaningless words fly in the face of his actions....

And AGAIN Trump said, this has nothing to do with guns, the guy was mentally disturbed. Now, that may very well be true HOWEVER, you Mr. Idiot President ALLOW mentally disturbed people to obtain guns with ease. So, the blood is on HIS hands and on EVERY lawmaker that sits back, does nothing, and ALLOWS our citizens to be senselessly murdered in cold blood.

It's absolutely awful. I actually know people that think all these mass shootings are orchestrated by the government, in an attempt to take all their guns away. Such crazy conspiracy theorists.

How can people be so ignorant? Why would the government have to secretly plan dozens/hundreds of mass shootings to take guns away? If that was really the plan, they would just do it, or they would start to implement some sort of gun control after each shooting. None of that has happened. Literally, nothing has changed. Yet these lunatics want to sit there and insist that these mass shootings aren't "real". It's insane.

I know one too many like this as well. If I have to see another FB post about the "Sandy Hook Conspiracy" I will scream. It's not only ignorant but so damn unfeeling to spread this propaganda.

The parents that lost their children at the Sandy Hook shooting have also been harassed and received death threats from these lunatics that believe whole-heartedly in these ridiculous conspiracy theories and stockpile guns the same way the average couponer stockpiles toilet paper.

I agree, someone with a mental health issue should NOT own a gun. So HIPPA laws need to change.

Like other's have said, another day, another shooting in America. Sad. This guy had a vendetta against his MIL. Where this is a will, there is a way, and if someone wants to do harm, they WILL find a way. If he was restricted from buying guns, then he would have bought a gun illegally, or drove a rented truck into the church, or blew it up, or stabbed everyone. It's not just guns.

My thoughts and prayers ARE with the victims families. No, my thoughts and prayers won't prevent another crime like this from happening, but it's calling being compassionate for other people who have suffered loss.

But there is an assumption that someone has sought help for a mental issue. Sadly there are many people who never seek help for their mental health issues and therefore would never be in the system. So just changing that aspect of the laws would not fully help the problem.

I think the original comment was moreso aimed at the President, Congress people, actual lawmakers in positions of power that can take steps to possibly prevent these tragedies, but choose not to do a damn thing.

Oh, okay. Well, during the last rant regarding this topic and the mass murder in Vegas, people were going crazy over their friends posting on Facebook that their thoughts and prayers are with the victims families. It was said that those words are meaningless, and do nothing because there needs to be gun control laws. WE don't make those laws (yes we can vote for people that do, but look what happened last November...guns won).

Automatic firearms are illegal in the US. Modifying a semiautomatic firearm to become an automatic is also illegal. An AR-15 civilian issued firearm is semi-automatic. It looks scary, but a regular old-fashioned shotgun is a lot deadlier.

He could have purchased his firearm illegally. I was told by my former students where exactly to find them, how much, and what kinds etc. So just because he had a history of mental illness and domestic abuse, he could have still gotten a gun. A Law didn't stop him from shooting up the church.

We as citizens have no idea what to do. Congress doesn't know what to do. Laws don't so crap. FACT: there are over 300 MILLION firearms "in circulation" right now. What do any of us propose to do to get rid of them?
Even if you were to repeal the Second Amendment, (which is almost impossible) what on earth do we do about 300 million already existing guns?

Can we just focus on dealing with an issue we CAN deal with today (while we figure out how to keep the guns out of the hands of the wrong people)? How to prevent violent attacks by mentally ill, deranged, angry people Chat Icon

Well, apparently humans are the "sport" being slaughtered with these types of weapons. Like deer.

Hearing that mothers threw themselves on top of their children to shield them from the bullets completely gutted me.

It has to start somewhere. Just sitting around saying "oh well there are already 300 million so lets keep making it legal." Isnt doing anything. I dont want to hear the BS excuse that people need it for protection because how well did that help those people who were murdered yesterday?

Is a regular old fashioned shotgun really deadlier than an AR-15? Would it have been able to kill 26 people and injury 20 in the same amount of time?
