I'm very sorry to hear that.
I could be wrong, but I don't think the funeral mass itself costs anything...

This is correct. You will see the breakdown of costs on the funeral home invoice . It will include the church

odd question about a church funeral mass
I highly recommend that you or someone in your family go to the funeral home that will be used and discuss costs of everything and what you might want ahead of time, rather than after your loved one passes and everyone is upset and not thinking clearly. That way you can preplan and avoid emotional decisions that might cost you a lot more than necessary. Preplanning is free and if the person does not pass, nothing more has to be done but you will have learned a lot of useful information for when the time does come.
I have preplanned for several family members and it was much better experience than having to suddenly make a long list of funeral care and church service decisions while at the same time notifying relatives, arranging for a grave opening and thinking about how to feed people gathering after the service. All while grieving.
I am sorry you are having so much stress.

Thank you so much. I would've never thought of that but great advice. Will definitely make a plan so it's not all in a ball of drama/confusion

odd question about a church funeral mass
Funeral homes will go over every option with you and help you make lots of choices, everything from picking a casket to putting notices in papers. They will tell you prices and offer alternatives, or a good one should. I have used two and each tried hard to make the process as easy as possible under the circumstances. All I had to do when the time came was call them. They took over from that point.
Costs can quickly rack up, so think carefully about what is absolutely necessary and what your family would want.
My mother had a living will that said she was not to be hooked up to tubes, etc. at the hospital so I chose not to have her embalmed afterwards as that involved hugely invasive tubes which I didn't think she would have wanted. I don't want it for myself, either. Making that decision saved about $1100, if I remember correctly, but cost was not the reason for my choice. I just hated the idea of strangers draining my mother and pumping her full of embalming fluid. Sorry if that is TMI, but it is what happens.
Planning ahead, if possible, eases the stress around losing a loved one. Take care of yourself. (((hugs)))
