allergy moms ...need advice DD first reaction
Last night we made homemade pizza in fire oven. Took some home from party and gave it to her tonite again. I left the house 30 minute and when I came home DH tells me that she is saying itchy eyes. She's 22 months. Then I see her face and that her left arm is red swollen with hives. I looked on her body nothing then I see that hives are popping up on her other arm.
I was freaking out I literally just bought benadryl the other day for no apparent reason just in case. So I gave some toeher. She's got no hives on her arms but her eyes are still red.
I have no idea what set her off. So what did other people do after the first occurrence? I'm not sleeping tonite I'm sure Thank you -paranoid

Oh no that sounds terrible. Did you call your friends and ask for the ingredients of the pizza? That's where I would start for now. I can't imagine there was anything else odd in the pizza. Are you sure it wasn't something she ate earlier that day? Maybe a cookie with nuts in it?

I would definitely call up the place and speak with someone who can tell you the ingredients used. Then you can do a process of elimination. I would also take her to get allergy tested.

I would make an appointment with an allergist ASAP. It might be hard to tell which ingredient gave her the reaction (there could be cross contamination with other allergens that she didn't even eat) but they can do a skin test for the top allergens and you will know within 30 min what she is allergic to. The second exposure is usually what gives the reaction, which is why you didn't see anything the first time she ate the pizza. Before you get to the allergist, keep benadryl on you/wherever she goes at all times.

It was pizza dough from a pizza store. Nothing else she hasn't eaten before. Cheese, said, olives and ricotta cheese. Then the dough. I will definitely get her checked. And pediatric allergist you can recommend?
Otherwise thanks for the advice

Not sure where you are located, but we use Dr. Marchlewski in Garden City. He is part of ENT Allergy group. He is EXCELLENT.

Could it have just been a virus? DD got terrible hives once out of the blue and that's what the ped thought it was. They found she had a mild fever but whenever I checked at home it was normal. I gave her benadryl and claritin until they went away.
When DD gets hives from food it's usually small red bumps around her face that go away fairly quickly thankfully.

It could be a virus, but please do make the allergist appt. I went through an allergy specialist for my DD but it was just one of those things, maybe this, maybe that after a round of tests and she is fine now. She had a reaction, and we were super scared, I walk around with an epi all the time but these kids do react with hives for viruses.

I never thought of that it could be a virus. her eyes were so puffy and it was only on one arm when I originally looked.
I have a call to the pediatrician.

This happened to my DS and it was a virus. He had no fever, nothing. lasted a few weeks with the hives on and off. His eyes got puffy at one point, his face by his mouth got puffy and even by his ears were puffy. I took him to an allergist first to rule out any allergies and that' when i found out it could be a virus. I gave benadryl when it was bad until the hives went away. I would definitely take him to an allergist.

My DD broke out in hives when tummy flu started @ my house. She ate nothing new..no new soaps or shampoo ..nothing. Ped said it was most likey a reaction to a virus. They went away after a week. Zyrtec helped a lot.

Has she been on antibiotics recently? My DS is having a reaction now to Augmentin - he was almost finished with it and broke out in hives (he's very limited in what he eats so I was able to pinpoint it - that and I had a similar reaction the last time I took it).

Re: allergy moms ...need advice DD first reaction
She hasn't been feeling well and she did have hives or something around her mouth a few days back. But that happens every once in a while. But it goes away without anything. I h add asked the ped today about it and she really just said well it could be from anything just keep an eye on it. Very non chalante about it. That I should just watch her. No suggestions or advice. I want to see a specialist .

Our ped was the same way and said it could be from anything and that we'd have to take him to an allergist if we wanted answers. I'd definitely take her somewhere to get allergy tested. If she hasn't been feeling well, it could very well be a virus.

When we did DD's cake smash last week she broke out in hives after eating the cake. I called my ped to get the dosage info for the Benadryl, and she didn't seem concerned. I would just carry Benadryl in case it happens again, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it!
