HELP!!!!Possible Milk allergy or teething...any advice (TMI)
Both of the boys have been having any where between 3-5 movements a day and most of the time it is watery. I called the dr a couple of times and they said at one point it could be a virus...but this has been going on for a few months now or since they started milk at 12 months...I am also starting to realize the more milk they have the more they go..
Now I also heard that teething could lead to lose stools..
Anyone have any recommendations? Is there something I can give them other than milk to see if that is the actual cause...Please help..I am tired of all of the diaper changes and rashes...
I plan on calling the drs tomorrow...but I trust you ladies more...

Re: HELP!!!!Possible Milk allergy or teething...any advice (TMI)
I'm certainly no doctor, and although my DD didn't have a milk allergy, I have two friends whose kids did...
Both times it was accompanied by a rash though, so I'm not sure if loose stools are the only sign...
I would say try a soy based milk like Silk (I think that's what it's called) and see if it improves, but I know a lot of pediatricians are recommending against soy these days if at all possible (something with hormones I believe)...

My friends baby has a milk allergy and she breaks out in hives.
Im not sure if there are different forms of the allergy.

Re: HELP!!!!Possible Milk allergy or teething...any advice (TMI)
DD had a milk protein allergy which she outgrew at 12 months. Was your DC on regular formula for the past 12 months? If so, it is milk based....so if he had no issues with it then, I'd think it's unlikely that a switch to milk would make the difference. As you know though, formulas have a whole bunch of other things in them including iron. Milk does not contain iron......and the consistency of #2 can just change without an indication of a real problem.
Loose stools alone aren't an indication of a milk protein intolerance...the stools would test positive for blood, or the baby could have hives, etc. IMHO I would avoid switching to soy at this juncture, and follow the ped's instructions.
Hope it's just a virus that passes quickly

Re: HELP!!!!Possible Milk allergy or teething...any advice (TMI)
My DD has a dairy and egg allergy. I nursed her and before we found out about the allergy her stool was very mucousy. She also had severly dry skin all over (it felt like sand paper).
I think it is teething. They produce extra salvia when they teeth, so they are now swallowing that. If they are on milk you could switch to soy because soy can be constipating to help stiffen up the stool.

DD has been like this- on and off diahrea for a few month already. my ped actually told me there is something called toddlers diarhea, where they have this for several months at a time. likely due to teething. if no other signs- rash, blood in diaper, irritable kids, i would think its jsut diahreaa

Re: HELP!!!!Possible Milk allergy or teething...any advice (TMI)
My DD had a milk allergy that she just outgrew at 2. If your DCS's were on formula or breastmilk before switching to milk you probably would have known already if they were allergic to milk. For my DD she did get a rash primarily on her face and vagina, severe stomach cramps and very water stools (a diaper could not hold it in.) She was diagnosed at 5 weeks.
I will say though that my ped mentioned regular milk may be hard on some toddlers tummies. He suggests organic milk. I don't know his reasoning because my DD never drank mlk, but I've heard him say it to other parents. Maybe something to do with the hormones or processing. Try that...or Silk Soy and see if it stops.
Good luck

Re: HELP!!!!Possible Milk allergy or teething...any advice (TMI)
When my dd first transitioned over to whole milk from formula she had a lot of digestion issues. It took us over a month to get fully to whole milk b/c she was getting diarrhea SO bad. But once her system got used to it we had no further issues.
My ds is milk allergic and was having an average of 12 poopy diapers a day, some of them had visible blood in them, all had microscopic blood.
