I've always had pets with non people names but I just recently named my hamster Luke because my brother and SIL started a little Star Wars theme with the mom and sister to mine. It is the first pet I've ever had with a people name. My bird is Bud, my parents' bird is Dusty, I had a Peanut, Honey, Big Red, Chip, Hopper, Truffle...wow, I guess I really like naming animals after food!

For some reason I've always enjoyed seeing animals with people names, especially more unusual ones but growing up we've had a mix.
Goldie the goldfish... and then we had a guinea pig who I wanted to name "darker ear" (one ear was darker than the other  ) and who my mom wanted to name Dougie Houser, so we named him Dougie Darker Ear and he went by Dougie.
We also had Stripey, Li'l bear and Marilyn (3 cats -- Marilyn has a spot in the same place as Marilyn Monroe's birthmark)
DH's family dog is Belle, but they also had Barkley and Dodger in the past.

I just remembered that as a kid, I had a parakeet named Oliver North. I wanted to name her Polly, but my older brother convinced me that Ollie (short for Oliver North) would be a much better name. So that's what I did. I even brought the bird to school one day for show and tell and told the entire class its name was Oliver North.

we have Remy..DH has had her all of her life...shes 11 and he used to tend bar and bounce back in the day so...Remy (as in martin)...
and we recently adopted Cassie from a rescue and the name fits her as she is a sweet girl...
they are both shih-tzus...

Belle is named after Belle from Beauty and the Beast, suits her well because to me she is a beauty  and to some she is ugly (I have had several people tell me this. Mean right?
