Spent the last 2 days in the hospital
and not because I was giving birth! 
My poor baby (or should I say big boy) went to bed with 104 fever Monday night... I gave him some motrin and continued to check on him, since for RJ it is not unusual to run high fevers...
Tuesday he was miserable- I made an apt. for 2:45 and he pretty much slept the entire day leading up to his apt. (when he wasn't sleeping he was crying)
Go to the Dr- take his temp there and it was 104. Both Dr's in the practice were there because they couldnt figure out what was wrong... they said something about their being so many different pieces that could fit into so many different puzzles...
They decided blood work would be the best option... (Im not even going to get into the things they were looking for, but it was enough to put me in major panic). By the time I got out of the Dr the lab was closed, so my plan was to head there first thing in the morning...
When I got home, I noticed he was real hot again, took his temp and it was 106
Dr advised me to give tylenol and motrin at the same time, wash him down with luke warm clothes and head to St.Charles... he felt it was best for him to be monitored there AND at least all blood work and results would be given ASAP (vs. waiting 2 days for the lab)
I gotta say- I HATE st.charles ER- my experience there was awful (and Ill save it for another post) Rj has had 2 other ER trips, but to Stony Brook- and there were just wonderful- this was a nightmare...
We were admitted after recieveing blood work results, since RJ's white blood count was very very high... I almost died- I never thought we would be admitted... They ordered several other tests, but the stupid house Dr wasnt telling me why or what they were testing him for...I couldnt help but think the worst..
We didnt get in our room til 5am, so my little man couldnt get an oz of sleep... (which made trying to get a cat scan of a tired, sick, and scared 3yr old- REAL interesting)
In the end he ended up with REAL BAD tonsilitis and an ear infection- bacteria had built up in his tonsils and the thought he might need surgery to drain it... but thankfully 2 doses of real strong IV antibiotics did the trick!
He did wake up yesterday with 105 fever and they were iffy about sending us home, but I insisted... he was not sleeping, or eating there because he was so scared and uncomfortable... I knew he'd get the rest his body needed at home...
So I promised to make sure meds were given, he drank lots of fluids and that we'd return again with high fever or if any of the other symptoms returned...
Sure enough- he slept GREAT last night, woke up with a low fever of 100 AND actually asked for breakfast this morning (hey chicken nuggets and french fries is a fine breakfast if you ask me!)
He is still overtired and crabby.... but def. on the mend...

ETA- the pediactric department was wonderful- so for me- just the ER SUCKED!
and my Dr's were AWESOME!!!
One of the Dr's called from his home phone 2x's to check up on my little boy... the ladies at the office called me after only being home from the hospital 15min (and the office was CLOSED) and the other Dr was on the phone with us/at the hospital with us the rest of the time... I have been with this practice since I was a child and they really are like family to me!
