Hey all
My face has been a MESS since coming off BCP and starting Clomid.

I went and bought the ProActive kit and they assured me its ok to use while TTC but just wanted to know if anyone else had any knowledge.

Re: ProActive

I had the same issue when I went off BCP a couple of years ago while TTC our son. My doctor assured me it was fine to use Proactive so I did and it cleared up the issues. HTH!

My doc assured me it was all hormone related and it would not last forever. She was right but it sucked while it was happening. The other thing I had to stop doing was touching my face (resting my chin on my hand, etc) because I was getting some breakouts on my chin from that. Stupid hormones!

Yeah even the Proactive girl said it was hormones.

Re: ProActive

Just make sure there isn't any salicylic acid in it. It was in my Neutrogena Face Wash so I stopped using it. Now I use Ivory.

I found that my skin was REALLY bad for awhile but it slowly got better as time went on.

Good luck!

I triple checked that with my dr and she said it's fine. I also read in the "books" that it's really ok too. They say it's not ok because it's not safe to ingest, but you're not ingesting it, you're only washing your face with it, the book and my ob said washing your face, being only such a small percentage of the surface area of your skin, it really is ok. I'm 13 wks pg and I ask my ob at every visit, no joke, "you're sure it's ok for me to use?" and she says it's fine, don't worry about it. I still use my biore. Chat Icon

Re: ProActive

I have a Dr's appt today, and was going to ask if Proactive was OK (my face is a train wreck). I'll let you know what she says, but if it has worked for you in the past, I sat go ahead and use til your PG. Even in the early weeks of PG, the baby doesn't share the same blood, so you should be fine.

Clomid made me break out horribly and the only thing that worked was sitting out in the sun. I know that sun damage is not good either but I was desperate.

Really? My dermatologist said it wasn't, and said not to do anything over 5% benzoyl peroxide either.

I found this online about Azelex...I'd avoid it...It's a Class B, which means there just aren't enough studies to rule it out either way.

“There is no evidence of the safety of azelaic acid during human pregnancy or lactation. It is therefore advisable to avoid using Azelex during pregnancy or lactation unless essential and no suitable alternative treatment is available. Animal studies have however produced no evidence that would suggest any risk to a fetus from use by a pregnant woman.”

Has anyone used Clearisil while TTC or PG?

Re: ProActive

I just found this info about Clearasil/Benzoyzl Peroxide:

Benzoyl peroxide, for instance, the active ingredient in over-the-counter creams like Oxy-10, gets the okay from some doctors. But the Food and Drug Administration labels it a Class C drug, which means that there isn't enough info to give it a green light. In a nutshell, they just don't know. "The likelihood is nothing will happen," says Dr Lamerson. "It's a relatively safe product. But technically, I would probably have people use salicylic acid instead."

And this negates the other thing I found about Azelex and says it's ok!

Dr Reed gives the go-ahead for these over-the-counter and prescription acne medications, which have been shown to have no adverse effects on either mother or baby:

Salicylic acid, the active ingredient in such over-the-counter products as Stri-Dex, Clearasil Clearstick, and Neutrogena Clear Pore Treatment

Topical erythromycin, found in prescription gels or ointments like T-Stat and Erythra-Derm

Clindamycin, a topical antibiotic that your dermatologist can prescribe in the form of Clinda-Derm or Cleocin-T

Azelaic acid, a prescription cream found in Azelex or Finevin
