Re: took a proactive step today (finally) and registered to take the GRE.
I think the verbal is harder than the math.
How long are you out of school?
Just make sure you understand how the CAT works. That's as important as knowing the content.

you're brave. I'm terrified of the GRE which is why I have procrastinated Grad School.
(It's also been 10+ years since I got my BA... I've been *dumbed* down ALOT)

You can do it. Get a prep book and review every night.

Re: took a proactive step today (finally) and registered to take the GRE.
There's a very recent thread where people give advice on how to study for the GRE.
It's not that bad. You should be able to do well just by taking some practice tests.
ETA: Good luck!

this thread is making me nervous LOL.
so yeah, it's been muchos años since I've been in school, and even longer since I've taken any type of standardized test.
my vocab, once pretty impressive is now just sad.
math was never my forte.

Re: took a proactive step today (finally) and registered to take the GRE.
MOST people have been out of school for a long time, and you're scaled against them.
You can get a LOT of math problems wrong and still get a really good score with the way it's scaled, and it's actually easier than SAT Math.
The Verbal, to me, is a little trickier, because of the Antonyms. you have to know words out of context, but I think it's do-able.
GO FOR IT!

tell me truthfully, is there a hardcore enrollment push?
I wont' enroll, and I dont' want to go if I'm going to feel like a cheap moocher.

truthfully, they do try to get you to enroll, but it's not a hard sell. It's usually basically a piece at the end telling you why you should prep with Kaplan. you will not be accosted individually and very few people sign up at the actual event, so it's not a big deal.
ETA: I do work for Kaplan, but LI is not in my region, and Grad is not my department, so it really has no impact on me if anyone signs up, but I do think they have good programs and the free sessions give GREAT information
When I run events like that I even invite already enrolled students because it's useful information for all involved.

Re: took a proactive step today (finally) and registered to take the GRE.
I'm going to take the test later this year. It has been a LONG time for me since I've been in school or taken a standardized test (graduated college in '90, took LSAT in '92).
I haven't cracked a study guide yet (although I bought them). That is something I need to start working on.
Good luck!
