Does anyone else have an extremely active toddler?

DD is 18 months old and a very sweet child. She is great with other children and hugs and kisses everyone. She sleeps very well from 7 until 6 or 7 the next morning. The 12 hours she is awake is spent running all over, climbing on anything she can and just being very active. She started to throw tantrums and bite if she doesn't get her way. Is anyone else going through this? Any advice? Is this normal toddler behavior or should I be worried?

Re: Does anyone else have an extremely active toddler?

DS turned 2 last month and you pretty much described him exactly. It pretty much started when he was fully walking, which is funny bc he was a late walker. Started a little after 17 months and hasn't stopped since. He can't sit still at all. Maybe to eat, stare at the TV a moment then onto the next activity.
He is also sweet, but just lots of energy. WE were sort of kicked out of library months ago as soon as he was walking and running around the class during story. Now in Mommy and Me where we go now it works bc they are good with activities for him. Oh, I had to take him out of swim lessons bc he can't follow instructions or listen while the others sing songs in the water, blow bubbles, etc. Mine wants to play going up and down the steps and will scream bloody murder if you try to get him to join class.
He is getting a drop better with screams now bc he's communicating more. I hear ya though!

Normal. I have always found (I work with infants an toddlers) that 18 months is a tough age! They are active but don't understand limits and there is no reasoning with them! Hang in there!!

Re: Does anyone else have an extremely active toddler?

Are our girls twins???

You just described my 14 months old. She is non stop all day, climbs everything, she jumps, runs and has all out tantrums. She is my younger dd as my oldest was active and big climber but nothing compared to this one!! She started walking at 9 months and she has been on the go since.

Her tantrums are numerous eah day. She picks toys up and throws them across the room, bangs her head, will throw herself onto the floor and she bites who ever is closest to her. She has a very strong will personality (a lot like me). She is the sweetest most affectionate baby. She is so mature and verbal and I think that is part of it. She doesn't understand she is still a baby. She wants to do big girl stuff, play with big girls toys. My peditricaian said its normal and healthy. So I'm not worried but I do hope she settles down ad stops climbing so much. She really scares me.

Well, I guess we have triplets!!!!
DD 2 is the same age - 14 months and is all over the place. She is on the go from the moment she wakes up until the time she goes to bed. She climbs on anything and everything - she is giving me more greys than I can count.
She also is very very strong willed and stubborn!!! The throwing and tantrums are ridiculous some days.
But at the same time she is the sweetest, cuddliest, mush I have ever met Chat Icon

Thank you so much for the replies. It feels good to know that other children this age are acting the same way. Can we all go to the same store at the same time so I'm not the only one with a screaming baby???Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm not sure bc when I take DD out, there are usually other kids who seem so calm. I love that she is healthy and energetic but sometimes I wonder if it's too much. Now that I know most kids are like this I can relax and let her enjoy Chat Icon
