Need advice- moms of allergy sufferers come in!

DS (2.5) seems to be suffering bad from allergies this week. He is coughing, sneezing and has a runny nose. He is also running a fever, ranging from 99.3-100.8. Is this typical with allergies? Not sure if he wakes up with the 100.8 fever again tomorrow if I should keep him home if it's just allergies. Need advice please! Chat Icon

My DS has bad allergies, usually no fever though. He's been coughing a lot. I kept him home 2 days last week because he really didn't feel well.

I would keep your DS home for sure if he has a fever, even a low one. It could be more of a cold than allergies.

AJ gets a fever FROM coughing. Just takes it out of her really. But we dose her with Wal-itin (claritin generic) every morning half a tsp. (since she was 2) and a full tsp of target up and up benedryl dye free 12hrs later.

Claritin is supposed to be half a tsp twice a day 12hrs apart. We give benedryl instead so we can see if she really needs it. I find benedryl works faster but is stronger so we hold off as long as we can. Only give it when she's really suffering. Plus it doesn't last as long 4-6hrs so we can give her a dose around 9pm and then let it wear off naturally overnight. Next dose is claritin for school.

Good luck!

DS has never gotten a fever from allergies.. but if he did i would probably keep him home for a day or until the fever went away...

DS has really bad allergies. Coughing, boogies and sneezing a lot. Sounds congested too, but it's not in his chest.
No fever though.
With a fever I'd keep him home. May be more than just allergies or maybe allergies and an ear infection. DS had that last week. I thought he had pink eye b/c his eyes were all red, but the Ped said it wasn't. It was allergies, but he had the start of an ear infection and was put on meds.
