Need help...Total personality change in 3.5 month old...
DS is 3.5 months, and for the past two weeks he has had a TOTAL personality change. Before he was smiley and charming, and generally didn't cry unless there was a reason (hungry, tired, etc.).
For the past 2 weeks or so he has had fits of inconsolable crying--purple faced fits that last 1/2 hour or more, and nothing will console him. He's been eating less, waking up at night 4-5 times, presumably for binky...He doesn't smile much anymore at all.
I don't know what to do. I'm sitting here, he's crying, I'm crying, and I am at a total loss. This was not the baby I know.  Is it teething? Is there any hope that I might get back the baby I know and love?  He doesn't have a fever, and his bodily functions are fine.

sounds like it could be a growth spurt. I know at 4 mos my DS stopped sleeping through the night.
Could also be early signs of teething

I would call the Dr...he may be teething, have an ear infection, or something else you don't know! I always took DS to Dr even if he was cranky for a day! You just never know!

I agree with the above poster, could be any number of things, growth spurt, teething, ear infection....I would cal t he Dr. and bring your DS in...it can't hurt, expecially if your mommy instinct is telling you something seems wrong.

Just wanted to update that I just got back from the doctor with him, who thinks he may have acid reflux so he's on Zantac and Maalox...I don't know if that's really it, but I think they just wanted to try something. Apparently it's not teething or a cold.

well at least you have a plan of action. I think my DS has the same thing as his symptoms are similar to your ds's... hope the meds help soon

DS went through the same thing at that age. The zantac along with switching his formula (similac advanced to similac sensitive RS) helped him!!! Hope your little man feels better!

Bring him to the ped & have DS checked for simple things so they can rule them out......like maybe an ear infection.
The waking, the inconsolable crying.....sounds all like when DS had his!

Beth, I'm so sorry you're going through this. While it's normal for babies to go through a sleep regression around 4 months, I can see why you're concerned with the crying fits. Have you changed formulas or food? Could he have developed an allergy to something?

A friend just went through the same thing with her DD who is roughly 4 months. She brought her to the ER because of the inconsolable crying and hysterics.....turns out she was STARVING and had to start her on cereal.
Could it be that he is starving?
Maybe he's constipated?

so sorry to hear this! i hope it changes soon! but it's very good you brought him to the ped....i hope the meds help!
we started DD on axid when she was nearly 4 months and it made a great difference. wish we had started sooner. she was crabby from the first day!
i am wondering though can reflux show up later? i mean i guess i am worried now b/c my almost 3 month old DS is a smiley little guy but lately has been spitting up like crazy and also wakes all night! i would have thought that if they had reflux it would have been obvious early on too??

my ped. said reflux can develop at any time. it's been less than 24 hours, but ds has taken the entire bottle at each feeding, which he hadnt done in a couple weeks. it's def. worth going to the ped!
