Is this normal?
Gavin likes to run.
Gavin is clumsy.
Running+Clumsy=Big Knot on Forehead

When you tell him not to run he doesn't listen and when you try to hold his hand he throws himself on the floor and has a fit.

Is this normal? When does a child actually start to LISTEN to you?

Re: Does your 18 month old JUST NOT LISTEN???

My 15 month old has selective hearing - like his father.
I'm not sure kids ever listen to their parents... I haven't.

Not only does my son not normally listen to me, he says "what" in a really obnoxious voice, and I am forced to repeat what I have said several times. I usualy say "Don't say what, say Pardon" and he says "what?"

So when I say what, he says...Mummy, don't say what, say pardon!

Mine is almost 4 and still doesn't always listen. He'll stop something for a little while but he has a short attention span.

3.5 here and we have a just healing head wound from a fall on the concrete. And a ridiculous amount of leg bruises...I swear that child services will knock on the door one day. Even her teacher jokes around about how long it takes in the am for her to take her first tumble....she doesn't listen to us asking her to slow down...it's a constant battle.

Sounds very normal to me.

DS is almost 17 months and he listens, sometimes, I think when whatever I am telling him to do isn't too offensive to him. But if it involves waiting, stopping, or eating, forget it.
