I'd be peeved. - He's YOUR kid. If you want his hair to be down to his knees that's YOUR business ........
If she said "Johnny was complaining that his hair was in his eyes" that would be different ..........
I agree, the teacher could have expressed it in a different way if she tought it was bothering your DS. I think I have a good sense of humor ,and don't get angry or offended easily but this incident would have bothered me as well.

And not for nothing but girls have long hair ,does she do this to them also? Is she doing it b/c she thinks bys shouldn't have long hair and was hinting to you to cut it b/c of her personal feelings? Oh man Im would have it out with her !!
There is only one girl in the class out of 7 kids (small preschool class) and she has really short bangs. So I don't think that has been an issue.
She has told me before that she loves johnnys curls and how lucky he is to have that kind of hair....but when it gets the tiniest bit long she hints to me to cut it. Its annoying but she NEVER did this before. The paperclip in his hair really bothered me. It's so odd!!
I would be so annoyed !! She was propably thinking it was a good way to pass a hint
Thats exactly what she said to me.."Its a hint to you mom to cut his hair". THANKS for the huge embarrasing hint in his freaking hair Miss Lippy!! (lol...for anyone who saw billy madison you'd get that). I need to focus on some humor today, I am dwelling way too much on negative stuff, sigh....
I sent a text to my mom telling her the story and she was outraged..she goes "She has really crossed the line!!"

Now that I've checked back on this thread, and have read that this is the third time she has mentioned his hair (and that once you actually cut it) I am beyond furious. I would call the director immediately and tell her/him in no uncertain terms that if this teacher ever again touches your son's hair, or even suggests that it should be cut you will be removing your son from their school. Who the he11 does she think she is?????????????????
ETA: I just saw that you said this was a special ed teacher??? OMG!!! So inappropriate. Now there is no way on this earth I think you should let it go.

Re: Ok, so I pick johnny up from school today...there is a paperclip in his hair..
I find that a bit abusive to be honest. His hair is NOT her business, her right to say a thing. And a paperclip is not a hairclip and even if it was, it's not her place to clip your DSs hair. I would have it out with them, no doubt.

Wow she is SO overstepping her boundary here; YOU'RE the Mom, YOU decide when it's haircut time, if ever. How DARE she do that to your child, I would be FURIOUS and would say so - in writing - to the school's admin. In grammar school we had a nun who did this to a kid (12 y.o. boy) - and she made him wear a BUTTERFLY BARRETTE in his hair all day because his hair "looked like a girl's". From what I know the kids parents were FUUUUUMING and met with the principal; let's just say that was the nun's last year teaching - she retired that June I hope she gets it and NEVER does that to another kid, she's totally out of line.

I would be very annoyed.
What if he fell and hit his head where the clip is? For a child his age, it seems like an accident waiting to happen. Right, what if he swallowed or choked on it???? Or it cut his eye somehow? Time to have it out with them IMO.l

Re: Ok, so I pick johnny up from school today...there is a paperclip in his hair..
She told me once that she felt it was getting in his line of vision and causing him to trip...so I just took it as a teacher being concerned for him and I didn't think too much of it.
But I agree, this is getting ridiculous. It's kind of the straw that broke the camels back. I mean the kids are all pretty little, I don't think they would know enough to make fun of him, and I don't think Johnny felt embarrasment, but I KNOW he didn't want it in his hair, he was patting and touching his head to try to get it out. I just felt she overstepped her boundaries big time

I'm not a parent but I would TOTALLY HAVE FLIPPED on this teacher if they EVER did that to my child.
WOW the audacity she has.
What if YOU like his hair that length? Who the HELL is she to tell you it needs to be cut?
I hope you make a complaint

I am soooo peeved for you! I'd be on the phone with the director NOW and telling her/him everything! How DARE she!
I know you said the paper clip was huge, but, my gosh, you just never ever know what kids are capable of. Ummm maybe she didnt even hear the story of the poor little girl who choked on the carrot last week? So Scary!!!
She has NO right at all to "Hint" or even tell you he needs a haircut.
Im sorry, but, she was WAY OUT OF LINE!!!!

LOL!!!
I am so torn. I think she means well most of the time. She seems to love all the kids and works VERY hard with them to achieve appropriate language, communication etc...
but in ways she is just OFF. Always smiling, always telling you what you want to hear...until BAM she unloads a bunch of stuff from nowhere leaving parents feeling very overwhelmed.
As for the teacher reusing bathwater....EWWWWW!!! Thats pretty nasty!!

well I went to private school and a parent would have gotten in trouble for having the boys hair that long, so this is nothing new for me.She should have sent a note home, she has no right to touch his hair

YEP! Special ed teacher. Nothing like making my kid look more "special-er" than taking all his hair and clipping it back in a huge silver paperclip!! Thank GOD I have a sense of humor!!

I would be beyond mad. DS's hair is very similar in length to Johnny's and I would be livid that a teacher, or anyone else, should even suggest what I do with my kid's hair.

Re: Ok, so I pick johnny up from school today...there is a paperclip in his hair..
I don't think I would get mad about the paper clip-I probably would have thought it was kind of funny. His hair might have been in his eyes and she was trying to help him out (at least she didn't put a barrette in it ).
However, I don't like her comment at all, like you said, a simple, "his hair seems to be bothering him when he is playing" would have sufficed.
By the way-he is so adorable-I love his hair.

what the E F F ??? are you JOKING? who does that??
not only is that COMPLETELY unprofessional would she do that to a GIRL??? it is NONE of her business how long his hair is. unless it is so long that he literally cannot see anything (and it doesn't seem that way from the pic) then who the hell cares how long it is?
i am SO mad rfor you right now. what an azz of a teacher.

Re: Ok, so I pick johnny up from school today...there is a paperclip in his hair..
Maureen.....a little peeved?? I would be FUMING!!!!! How dare she make ANY "hints" to you, telling you what to do and putting something potentially dangerous and embarrassing in YOUR son's hair!!!!
I understand that it didn't come from a mean-spirited place, BUT...people will treat you how you allow them to. I would NEVER give this woman the license to EVER do something like that again to your child or anyone else for that matter. If you let this slide, what's next? You pick him up and she decided to cut his hair for you? I'm also angry that she sets you up to drop a bomb on you in your meetings as well!! What's that about? Keeping you on the defensive and off balance as to not bring attention to her inadequacies? Not cool at all. You should never walk into one of those meetings and be blind sighted. I would call her out next time that happens and put her on the chopping block about WHY this is the first you're hearing these things. I'm so mad for you!!
I would be FLIPPING on the director right now. But that's just me

I'd be furious! They put a big binder clip on his hair?? Really, it's no one's business how long your child's hair is. Suppose you don't cut hair for religious reasons? They should mind thier own business.
