Re: I have some induction questions
I was 39 weeks - I was having gall bladder issues
Did they start you on Cervadil or Pitocin? -cervadil
Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction? -- I think I was 1cm dilated.
How long did it take you to progress? --Had 2 rounds of cervadil and then started pitocin and delivered 5 hours later
How long after the induction started did you have the baby? -- approx. 38 hours - there was time in between my 2 rounds of cervadil and approx 5 hours between pitocin and cervadil

Neen - what is Cytotec? I never heard of it before.
It's main "label use" is for gastric ulcers (that's basically what it's listed as with the FDA), but a non-listed use is as a cervical ripening agent.
The way it works is that it's administered (vaginally, just like cervadil) every 3 hours. The controversy comes from people referencing/posting articles in which it can lead to uterine rupture and is NOT labeled for induction purposes. Which is true, but lots of things can cause uterine rupture and we use many other things in other ways than what their "official" use is, so i take all that info with a grain of salt.
That being said, I only received one dose of it because the intial dose got me contracting right away (i never felt the contractions, but they showed up on the monitor). If you have 3 or more contractions in 10 mins, they won't give you another dose because that is when you run the risk of uterine rupture (due to contractions coming on too quickly, etc). As long as it's monitored closely (which it always is) then, imo, the risks are the same as with any other drug.
I really had a great induction experience (though, i'm still a bit nervous about this next one in a few days) and was happy with the way everything progressed the way it did. Hope your friend has the same luck!

Re: I have some induction questions
Did they start you on Cervadil or Pitocin? - Dr. immediately broke my water - then was started on Pitocin. I did not need Cervadil b/c I was 80% effaced when i got there.
Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction? - Was only 2cm dilated and 80% effaced...was this way for many weeks before being induced...was induced 6 days past due date.
How long did it take you to progress? - I was in labor for 15 hours...progressed very slowly at first. Took forever to get from 3 to 5cm...hours. Then from 5 it took one hour and I was then 7cm the next time they checked me. Then things sped up from there. They told me rule of thumb is it takes approx an hour to dilate 1 cm.
How long after the induction started did you have the baby? - Induction started around 8am - had baby at 11pm
How many weeks were you? 40 weeks, 6 days
I delivered vaginally...with epidural that wore off...I felt EVERYTHING!!!!! Took me an hour and a half to push my DD out!
Good luck to Stacy!
PS - my sister and a friend both were on 2 doses of cervadil (1 dose is 12 hours) and it did nothing for them....they both ended up having to get c-sections because their cervix never thinned out enough.

Re: I have some induction questions
Did they start you on Cervadil or Pitocin?
I was given Pitocin, never recieved Cervadil.
Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction?
4cm's dilated through a cerclage
How long did it take you to progress? Once they started the Pitocin (around 1ish) I began having contractions and DS was born @ 6:30 pm
How long after the induction started did you have the baby? See above
How many weeks were you? 34 weeks
My sister was just over 41 weeks when they induced her (I think she was 10 days past her due date). She was started on Pitocin right away and began having contractions...didn't actually start really dilating for almost 20 hours. She gave birth to her son about 30 hours after they started the Pitocin. They wanted to do a C-section before that but she was extremely opposed to it. She ended up giving birth vaginally, but they had to use forceps to get her son out. This was her first child, however, so it may be different since this is Stacy's 2nd.

Re: I have some induction questions
For a friend (Frankiesmom) - obviously not for me
Did they start you on Cervadil or Pitocin? Cervadil started about 7/pm
Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction? 1cm
How long did it take you to progress? awhile.....after 12 hrs of cervadil I was only 2-3cm. So my doc put the next one in (resident had done the 1st) and said he was "more aggressive" - whatever that means, it hurt a little more but nothing crazy. After that one, 4 hours later he checked me and I was 5cm and starting to have contractions. Thats when they started pitocin and broke my water. Took me awhile to progress after the epi....so it took awhile but other than that it was a great experience.
How long after the induction started did you have the baby? 27 hours
How many weeks were you? 36.5 (i had preeclampsia)
Stacy will be 41 weeks tomorrow. She had her first son vaginally at 41 weeks, 1 day.

I had 2 absolutely beautiful, successful inductions. My kids were born in 4 and 3 pushes Good Luck to your friend!
