I have some induction questions
For a friend (Frankiesmom) - obviously not for me
Did they start you on Cervadil or Pitocin?
Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction?
How long did it take you to progress?
How long after the induction started did you have the baby?
How many weeks were you?
Stacy will be 41 weeks tomorrow. She had her first son vaginally at 41 weeks, 1 day.
They want her to go in at 8pm to start the Cervadil.
She is unsure of what to do. Please share your induction story! I'm posting bc she doesn't have access to a computer right now!

Re: I have some induction questions
This is with Colin. I was induced b/c his heartrate was low (120 consistently) and Hanauer felt the placenta was crapping out.
Did they start you on Cervadil or Pitocin?
She gave me low dose of Pitocin.
Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction?
I think I was 3cm dilated/80% effaced at that point.
How long did it take you to progress?
I was checked again until about 4 hrs later when I was almost ready to push.
How long after the induction started did you have the baby?
4 hr 24 minutes.
How many weeks were you?
38w4d
Good luck to her!!

Re: I have some induction questions
I was induced twice at 40w3d and only fingertip dilated (maybe 1cm?) with both. I went in at 10pm and started at 1am and 4am with DC1 and DC2 respectively. Pitocin started with both around 8am and I delivered DS at 7:21pm and DD at 6:44pm so almost exactly the same. Both were vaginal deliveries.
Good luck to her

Re: I have some induction questions
Did they start you on Cervadil or Pitocin? Cervadil
Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction? 1 cm
How long did it take you to progress? After 12 hours of Cervadil, they broke my water, started Pitocin, and I got up to 2.5 cm. Never progressed further, so I had a c-section (I was running a fever and DS's heartbeat was all over the place).
How long after the induction started did you have the baby? 26 hours
How many weeks were you? 42 weeks

Re: I have some induction questions
I was started on cervadil.
I was ZERO. ZILCH. there was NOTHING going on down there
it took me forever to progress (actually they had to take the cervadil out prematurely b/c of complications I was having with it)
it took me 17 hours to open up. but b/c my contractions started as soon as they put the Cervadil in I never needed pitocin.
at 5am I was effaced and fully dilated.
by 5:23 am Luce was on TOP of my belly.
I was 41 weeks and a few days.
if she has the choice to wait, I would wait. my doc didn't want to b/c of me age ( ) but I would have liked to have waited until 2 weeks late (though I say this a year later...not sure what I would have said the day before I had him )
I went into the hospital at 12 noon. that SUCKED.
if she could go in at like 10 pm, this way you can sleep through the long part, that would be better I think. it takes 12 hours for the cervadil to take effect, so they say.
good luck to her!

Re: I have some induction questions
Did they start you on Cervadil or Pitocin?
For me - Cervidil I never received Pit bc I never effaced. Went for Emergency Section
Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction? I was like 40% effaced and 1 cm dlated...Nothing!!
How long did it take you to progress? 2 days....and the most I progressed to was 60% effaced and 2cm
How long after the induction started did you have the baby? 48 hours....but via Section How many weeks were you? 37 weeks 5 days...The reason so early for induction was preeclampsia. So basically the baby had to be born. Stacy will be 41 weeks tomorrow. She had her first son vaginally at 41 weeks, 1 day. ETA: I had 3 rounds of cervidil but the last round instead of waiting the full 12 hours my OB waited 6hr...I had it at that point.

Re: I have some induction questions
I was induced with both DD and DS.
DD I was 41 weeks. I was maybe 2 centimeters. Started pitocin at 9am had her at 7:15.
DS was 40 weeks. Again maybe only 2 or 3 centimeters. Started pitocin at 9am had him at 4:15.
BOth were really easy. Just pitocin, they broke my water around 10 - 11 am, did the epi by 12, pushed for about an hour with DD and maybe a 1/2 hour with DS.
Good luck and labor vibes for your friend

Re: I have some induction questions
38 weeks I was barely 1 cm and not effaced. started with cervadil. Got 3. from the time I got the first cervadil until til I ended up with a c/s was over 30 hours. I was not progressing and DSs HR was dropping. Ended up with a c/s before it became and emergency
She probably has a better chance being she is 41 weeks that baby has to be ready (mine was NOT)
GOOD LUCK TO HER!

Re: I have some induction questions
- they started me on petocin because I was already 100% effaced.
- I was 3cm and 100% effaced when I went in
- It was a bit slow, at first. But, I then ended up going from 5cm to fully dilated in about an hour.
- They started the petocin at 10am, started pushing at 8pm and I had the babies at 11pm
- I was 38wks with twins (I was supposed to have a c-section, but the planned changed when DD turned)
Good luck to her!!!

Same EXACT situation...I was 3 days beyond my due date and only got to 4 cm. Due to fever and the irregular heartbeat, Dr. wanted C section right away.

Re: I have some induction questions
I unfortunately did not have a good induction but everyone is different.
Did they start you on Cervadil or Pitocin? Two rounds of cervadil - only 50% effaced after the first.
Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction? Nope, had nothing going on.
How long did it take you to progress? After 24 hours of cervadil they gave me pitocin but DS wasn't handling the pitocin very well.
How long after the induction started did you have the baby? I had contractions for 12 hours and got to 9 cm before having an emergency C (DS heart rate dropped insanely low, my water broke and had meconium in it - baby was stressed)
How many weeks were you? Just about 42.

Re: I have some induction questions
I was induced because my water broke but I wasn't having contractions...
Did they start you on Cervadil or Pitocin? Pitocin
Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction? Very little
How long did it take you to progress? They started it at noonish and I gave birth at 7:01
How long after the induction started did you have the baby? See last question
How many weeks were you? 39 weeks, 6 days
Not sure how helpful that is

Re: I have some induction questions
Did they start you on Cervadil or Pitocin? -Cervadil
Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction? Yes, I had been dilated about 1 1/2 cms for a couple of weeks and 50% effaced
How long did it take you to progress? -forever
How long after the induction started did you have the baby? -via c-section the following evening, so start to birth was over 24 hours
How many weeks were you? 40 on the nose
If I could go back in time I would NEVER have agreed to it. I was induced to presumed "size". I went against everything I had learned and let my dr bully me so to speak into being induced. I would feel much much better about my experience as a whole if I had put my foot down and been let to go at least the next week and let the baby decide when it was ready.

Same experience here, except I was induced 2 days before my DD.

Re: I have some induction questions
* I was started on Cervadil (ended up with 3 rounds)
* Not dilated or effaced at all
* After 36 hours of Cervadil and 8 hours of pitocin, I had ZERO progress (well, I made it to 1.5 cm, if you can call that progress )
* Started the induction around 10pm on Tuesday, had the baby at 6:14 on Thursday
* I was 39w 1d when they started - was extremely swollen and in the starting stages of pre-e.

Re: I have some induction questions
Did they start you on Cervadil or Pitocin? They used Cytotec with me. I know it's controversial, but as long as it's monitored closely and correctly, it works as needed.
Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction? i was 2cm and 50% for almost a month and a half
How long did it take you to progress? I got the first dose at 10pm. no progress untill 7am. Went to 3cm and 70% effaced. At that point, got the epidural and started pitocin. By 9:30am, i was fully dilated and effaced. Started pushing at 10ish, DD was born at 10:25am.
How long after the induction started did you have the baby? just over 12 hours
How many weeks were you? 41w2d

Re: I have some induction questions
I was started on Pitocin after about 48 hours of labor. I was fully effaced and 1 cm dilated. Went to 2 cms after about 2 hours, wouldn't progress after that, plus baby was in distress so I had to have an emergency C

For a friend (Frankiesmom) - obviously not for me
Did they start you on Cervadil or Pitocin? They started me on Cervadil at 8PM
Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction? No...maybe 1 cm but nothing was going on. I went to my weekly appointment and I had protein in my urine. Went to the hospital because the Dr. was nervous about PreClampsia. After all the tests came back negative...my dr. said I had to wither go on bedrest until I went into labor...or i could be induced. I chose induction.
How long did it take you to progress? Had mild contractions throughout the night...they progressively got worse. At 8 am I got the epi and Pitocin. I only dilated to 6 cm...and satyed at 6 forEVERRRRR!!!! Never went beyond that! So we went in for the c-section. The C was my choice. 24 hours later...I was doing great...the baby was doing great. We could have kept on waiting...but I was so over it at that point. I wanted my baby OUT!
How long after the induction started did you have the baby? I had a c-section 24 hours later.
How many weeks were you? I was 41 weeks.
Good Luck!
Although I ended with a C-setion...I had an amazing expierience!!!

Re: I have some induction questions
Some of these I already answered on the other post but now they're all in one place for you - responses in caps below - in general, my induction went well - being induced did help me feel a little more in control of the situation than I think going in labor would've - I was scared and anxious anyway, but I think I would've been worse if my water had actually broken while out running an errand or something like that. It was a long day and a difficult delivery (pushed for almost 2 hours, tore pretty badly, giant baby), but the hard parts were independent of the induction - DD was sunny side up so that was the biggest problem with why it was so hard to get her out and took a vacuum in the end and also why I had some painful back labor. Despite the hard parts though, I was really happy with my induction in the end and would do it again in a second. Good luck!!

Did they start you on Cervadil or Pitocin?
Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction? ABOUT 2 CM AND 50%
How long did it take you to progress? A LITTLE OVER 12 HOURS TO GET TO 10 CM, FOLLOWED BY 2 HOURS OF PUSHING - ABOUT 14 1/2 HOURS TOTAL.
How long after the induction started did you have the baby? 14 1/2 HOURS
How many weeks were you? 41 WEEKS, 6 DAYS
Stacy will be 41 weeks tomorrow. She had her first son vaginally at 41 weeks, 1 day.

Re: I have some induction questions

Were you dilated/effaced at all before going in for the induction? -- I think I was 1-2 cm dilated. Can't remember the effaced part.
How long did it take you to progress? --Started pitocin around 9 am, never made it past 5 cm, had a c-section at 10 pm. DD had actually gone back up very high (after she had already descended earlier, no way was she coming on her own, still needed a vacuum during c/s.)
How long after the induction started did you have the baby? -- approx. 13 hours
How many weeks were you? -- 40w 6d
