induction scheduled- some questions

so I am going to be induced at 40 weeks, 1 day. I have some qustions for BTDT
1. this will be at LIJ (new hyde park). scheduled for 5, but OB told me to be there at 4. when will things actually get going- meaning in room , iv started, so on

2. those who were induced, at hwat point did you get epidural?

3. I am dialted and effaced, OB plans on jsut breaking water to start- then adding pitocin as necessary- did anyone have jsut breaking water work?

4. anything i need to do before i go in?

you will be okay!!

i was also induced at 40w1d with NO effacement or dilation. i got cervidil, they broke my water and things started moving according to plan. i had a long labor for reasons completely unrelated to induction, but was up and showering 2 hours after giving birth.

to answer your questions:

1. i don't know about LIJ, but at south nassau i got there at 9, did the last of my paperwork, etc. i set up the room, got comfortable and got the cervidil at around 11am--it was the perfect timing because nothing was rushed--i was very relaxed.

2. i got the epidural i think at about 5cm--when i NEEDED it!! there was no doubting in my head that the time had come for me to get it because i was crying and screaming in pain. i felt much better after!

3. can't help you with this one--sorry.

4. EAT!!! you can't eat once labor starts. i had a very big breakfast and they gave me lunch when they realized my dilation was slow. thank goodness i ate or i wouldn't have had the strength to push for the 5 hours i had to push for (again for unrelated reasons)

i was induced at 36w 1 day(preeclampsia)...had effacement & 1cm


they admitted me at 9pm and gave me cervadil. *outch- its put in internally... in the morning they checked me and I was upto 3cm so they switched to pictocin in the iv. At some point they told me I could get the epi at any point.and they broke my water in the afternoon. i waited a while then got it- wasnt so bad & had a NICE nap after it.... around 10pm that night started pushing- 1230am Baby!

- ONLY GIVEN ICECHIPS once your admitted. I hadnt eaten in 30 hours when baby was born!

Good Luck.. i would get there @ 4am it seems your OB wants to get the ball rolling.. I would get the epidural right away, if i read correctly you posted previously that you were 3-4 cms & it's not your first baby.. things will get going pretty soon after your membranes are ruptured.. double check with the OB to see what they think.. GL & eat a nice dinner the night before, & i would eat a light breakfast if you were told you could!! Sorry, i forgot w/ my DD i was 5cm when i got to the hospital.. my doc broke my water @ 845pm & i had her @ 1014pm.
