i posted lots of pictures on LIW...and was harassed by a vendor and a bride
then i started posting pictures on here and people recognized me. that made me realize how many people read this that could know me IRL. and i had some experiences with one LIF poster in particular that made me never want to let out who i "really" am. so i erased everything.
the people who know me in real life know who i am on here. that's all that need to know.
i'm 99% sure that when i have kids i will not post their pictures on here. maybe a sonogram or 2, and their first photo, but not after they start to get older. it kind of creeps me out that i would "recognize" so many people's children if i saw them in real life. i know their names, likes/dislikes/etc...very scary.

I used to feel safe on here and I do not anymore, it is the internet and as stated above the girls who know me IRF and girls who have meet me from here know I am for real. I am totally creeped out by all of this and have removed all of my pics, and most personal info.

yup... i'll vouch for emily too-- i met her for like a millisecond at the Strike GTG in like '04 
i dont post many pics just b/c DH isnt in love with the idea... but its not because of safety issues.... i'm well aware that there are MORE people lurking than posting.. so just because someone made up a fake screen name, it doesnt spook me- its the ones that dont post that are probably more of a threat.

I don't know what happened with this kate07 person but from what i've read on this thread I can see that the point is that it's not safe sometimes to post pics.
I've always posted pics because I love showing off my little boy... But now I have to re think it and it's a shame too that I have to do this because of some sicko!

she didnt threaten anyone because of pictures posted.
I'm sure there are WORSE people in the world that are looking at pics of your child than someone who made up a fake name, to be honest.
I mean, i can understand being cautious, but did people not realize that this has ALWAYS been a PUBLIC forum????

Besides being a private person, I'm also a teacher who wants to keep my identity protected. Even though I might keep some information to myself, I still love to post on these wonderful boards. I love how we can relate to all things Long Island and I can get an unbiased opinion about something going on in my life.

I can vouch for a number of people on this thread that I've met.
I've met over 100 moms for photoshoots. I took their photos. I know they're real. I know their kids are real. I don't know if what they post is real. They could be lying about their situations, their life, their jobs.
At one point you have to take a leap of faith. Sometimes you're wrong, most times you won't be.

I don't post pics of myself or DH for privacy reasons. Really, that's it. I really don't want pictures plastered all over the internet in public forums. Maybe that's me being a little paranoid, but that's it. I don't think everyone should have to display names and pictures if they do not feel comfortable with it.
Same here. I posted pics on LIW but then saw pics of me or something from my wedding in someone else's post. It was in a complimentary way, but it made me realize that - just like I was doing - other people were saving pics of things that they liked.
Also, it's very easy to put 2 and 2 together and figure out a lot of informaiton about someone. For example, I've stopped responding to posts about what high school/college/grad school I went to and what year. If you know my name is Jennifer and I graduated from XYZ University in 2001, it wouldn't be hard for someone to figure out who I am IRL. There are crazy people out there who would do that. Or maybe I'm paranoid from all the Lifetime movies I watch...
Besides I've met some of you at GTGs so they know I'm not a

I put very few pics online because they are out there for all to see and claim and do whatever nasty stuff they can do.
Once you put something out there and someone sees it and saves it or copies it, it's not your own.
I put far too much info out there already but I was in crisis and needed to reach out.
Pics are another story entirely.
I'm hoping the info I have already put out there helps me, my family or someone else down the road and the pay off is worth it. I'm still very nervous about it but it's done and I will live with it.
That's as personal as I will get online. I have met a few of you in person and that's fine..
