Re: breakfast debate, your thoughts
Personally, I wouldn't have made her pasta. I would have offered 2 or 3 choices and had her pick. However, that's my routine for DS everyday so he knows that he can't ask for things out of left field because it wouldn't happen. I get that you were tired though and so you just wanted her to stop crying. Sometimes you just have to do what works.

breakfast debate, your thoughts
Food is food.. end of story I eat cereal for dinner and some places serve breakfast all day here while others serve up dinner all day (ah memories)
During our recent vacation I ate Salmon with rice, mango shots and French toast for breakfast! LOL
Who cares as long as it's food?!

I don't think it is a big deal that you gave her pasta.
Lessons I have learned from the past though, you were giving into to her. It doesn't seem big now, but it is hard to break habits like that. I give 2 choices for breakfast and lunch, dinner has 2 choices also eat or don't. My youngest is 3 and all 3 of my kids have gone to bed with no dinner because that is what they choose. They may not like what I make all the time but they need to try it.
I also get you had a rough night, I have BTDT with my first 2 being a year apart and you cave just for sanity, it's just something to think about.
Thanks everyone for posting. My kid is the best with food most morning she wants oatmeal or eggs with sausage. If dh is home he makes it for her. I appreciate all sides of this and know that if I am home I will give her non breakfast food if she wants. I may not make her pasta again but if I have left overs why not, and if dh is cooking he can offer what he wants. I mainly wanted to know the btdt lessons learned. She's a kid that already pushes her limits and I know I can not let anything get past her she's way to smart already. I don't want to make a mistake (of many I know) with eating since she's so good right now.

Once yes more than that I wouldn't. But we all have different kids I know mine and my dd is if you give an inch she will take a mile. So she needs limits, structure and boundaries.

I don't think you did anything wrong. Food is food, who cares what time of the day it's eaten.
I try to pick my battles as often as I can with DS, because most of the things he goes on and on about are just pure nonsense - it's not worth it.

LOL yes he thinks hes the boss. But I think hes feeling the estrogen in the house and is out numbered so hes trying to keep the boundaries defined. He was just annoyed I think cause after she crashed our bed and woke up screaming for me ( i was feeding DD2) he doesnt do crying & whiny; when he reaches his limit hes done.(poor him) I have more tolerance I suppose than him.

breakfast debate, your thoughts
Idk that toddlers really distinguish "dinner" foods from "breakfast" foods. It's what she wanted to eat. My DD will sometime want a sandwich for breakfast or waffle for lunch. Who cares?? She's happy. She eats. I'm happy.
And it's not like you whipped up a lasagna. You boiled water. No harder than making French toast.

I don't think it's a big deal at all. Especially since she was initially asking for ice cream and was having a tantrum about it. You didn't give in to that, and it seems like pasta was a good compromise.

Depending on the part of the world you come from, noodles for breakfast are the norm. Pasta in the morning is fine IMO. It's just a bagel in a different form!

I agree. When I get these critiques, I generally tell DH that anytime he wants to step in and take over, he's welcome, otherwise, I am handling it the way I want to.
I have a terribly picky eater. The one hesitation I would have with giving pasta in the morning is with my DS, once I do something differently once, he thinks it's a new routine. So, I am careful not to start anything new unless I am preparing to continue to do it for a while, because that is a possibility. In this case, I would just keep a bowl of cooked pasta in the fridge, so I could heat it up when she wanted it, whatever time of day it is.

No way would I make anything for my tiny terror at that time. She also doesn't get any choices at home or daycare. She eats what she's served and it's the same time everyday. I agree with your husband. Butttttttt my dh would do anything to keep our dd from crying. You just need to do what works for you and your family

I don't think you were wrong. The only thing I've tried to do is to give an appropriate mix of nutrients. So I would have added cheese or a yogurt on the side and maybe some fruit. As far as choice of food, I don't think its a big deal to give non breakfast foods. I think its actually silly to dig your heels in about one type of food or another as long as they are getting the nutrition they need. Let them think they have some autonomy!

Re: breakfast debate, your thoughts
I am not saying you are "wrong", but for me, my DD would always remember that time that I made pasta for breakfast, and would ask for it again lol. However, she is not a bad eater so I don't have to worry about her not eating.

I agree but it sounds like you may be having some issues anyway. My kids are only 18 months and we give a variety at breakfast because sometimes they have picky days. But we arent really at the point where thye're testing limiits. It's usally eggs or oatmeal, cheese, sometimes crackers, bananas and sometimes another fruit so if they dont like one part of it, there's not a huge fight. (yes they eat a ton lol)
