If you don't have LATCH connectors for the center seat...
Can you use the LATCH connectors for the outer seats to connect the carseat in the center position? Or do you have to use the seat belt to secure the carseat in the center?

You cannot use the outward LATCH points to connect a center car seat. It is not designed for that, and your car owner's manual will explicitly state that. The seatbelt (when used properly) is just as safe and secure as the LATCH points.

You should never use both the seat belt and the LATCH at the same time (except for some booster seats, but the LATCH points are just to keep the seat attached to the car when it is empty, it's not a safety connection at that point). The base (or seat) is not designed for that. They are only designed for one or the other. As backwards as it may sound, using both connection methods at the same time is less safe than one or the other.

I've used both. I used to have my car seat in the center with the seatbelt, but then I moved the car seat outboards with latch when my ds started harassing the dog while we were driving.
Technically center is safest. But the actually safest is where ever you can get the best install.

If you don't have LATCH connectors for the center seat...
when I went to get my car seats inspected they actually installed both car seats, baby and convertible, with the seatbelt and it felt much more secure than with the latch!

Yes I've read the same thing. It should be one or the other but not both.
It is usually stated in manuals NOT TO use both.

Typically you can not "borrow" the LATCH from outboard seats to connect a seat in the center. However there are some cars that allow it. Read your specific cars manual it will say if you can or cant.

Dh put our seat in the center using both the latch and seatbelts. When I went to get it inspected they told me that was wrong. Either you put it on the side with latch or center with seatbelt, never both.

I had the state troopers help install my seat and they recommended the outboard seats. Also my cars manual recommends the outboard seats

My base is more secure with both ..less wobble & more level. Im not a fan of the base as is.for me the tighter the better.in my other car I just use the seat belt on my infant seat no base.

If it's wobbly, it's not installed properly.
It should be installed with less than 1" of movement side to side or front to back with EITHER the LATCH or the seatbelt, but not both.
I'd suggest you call Chris and make an appointment to learn how to properly install it ASAP.

I'm just curious, how can you be comfortable with it when your manual more then likely states that it is not allowed to be attached with both LATCH and seatbelt?
Why wouldn't you be interested in knowing how to properly install it so that your child can be safe if God forbid you are in an accident?
There are plenty of certified installers on LI you can go to.

Why is it so difficult to set your pride aside and get the seat installed properly?

You don't have to make an appointment with a professional but you should at least look in your manual. My car specifically says that it is unsafe to use the belt and latch together.

I don't think most people realize these installation checks are FREE OF CHARGE and take about 10 minutes. It is such a minor commitment to ensure the safety of your child.
