Re: Car seat latch system?

The LATCH system is a feature in newer cars. Ours has it. I don't know all the details, but it's metal rings on the backs of the seats that you hook the car seat onto, thus eliminating the need to use your car's seat belts to secure the seat. They're a new feature over the last few years. Is your car newer? It may have it. Check your owner's manual if you're not sure, but you'd see the rings/latches.

I have the LATCH system and never have used it.

I just use it the standard way.

Check the owners manual for your car to find out if it has latch set up.

we set up our car seat (graco snugride now and will use the britax for when he's a little older) and used the latch system, i had a state trooper inspect it to make sure it was installed correctly and he said he prefers to use the LATCH as he thinks it holds the seat in better and is safer (his opinion)

thanks my car is a 94 - can't remember DH's year (its newer). I guess we can use the latch system OR still use it the traditional way too?

Meaning I'll still be able to use the car seat even if my car doesn't have the latch system support?

Thank you.

Re: Car seat latch system?

yes - all carseats can be used either way. but I don't think cars have to have LATCH until 2002? One of our cars does not - one does. I will say it's so much easier with LATCH, but we have no problem in either car.
