Please help with sippy cup issues!

ugh, I am at m wit's end. DDs are 11mo+ old twins. They drink formula with no problem out of a bottle. They drink water out of their sippy cups with no problem. They love it!

They will not drink formula/milk out of any type of sippy cup. Chat Icon Chat Icon WHAT do I do? I have tried everything. They sip it sometimes, but they never even come close to drinking even 2 ounces of it. Don't get me wrong- they get the concept. They can tilt, lift, suck, etc etc. They even pretend to feed it to the dog. :|

Here's what I've tried: the see thru cups with handles, straws, y shaped rubber spout, hard spout, elmo, pink, Elmo with straws... Chat Icon So aside from being brokeass broke Chat Icon , I am losing my mind. I either end up throwing out the formula/milk or I give in after 3 meals without it. I mean, they need the nutrients and I can't throw money out the window.

What do I do? Has this refusal to let go of a bottle happened to any of you? Am I messing them up because they haven't transitioned to the cups yet?? Chat Icon

Re: Please help with sippy cup issues!

Chat Icon It can be a rough transition. My DS was not ready to drink milk out of a sippy until he was 15 months old. He would drink water, but not milk. What I found helped was to get him used to drinking cold milk from the bottle first for awhile. When I tried to switch at 13 months, he was NOT having it. So I put them away and I would try again each month until he was ready. They might just need more time. JMO but I would put away the sippy cups for now and try again in a month or two. GL!

Re: Please help with sippy cup issues!

Personally, I would just give hte milk in the sippy and take away the bottle completely.

Eventually-within a week, they will resort to the sippy when there is no other option.

This is what I had to do. I was giving DD milik in the am with a bottle and she would refuse it in the afternoon in the sippy cup.

Cold turkey for me but the only thing I did do is I got the Tommy Tippee cups for the milk so it wont drip out and only use those for milk. I use others for water. She knows which is which and it took a few days but with taking the chill out of the milk and only that telling her "no more Babas" she adjusted.

Good luck

Re: Please help with sippy cup issues!

I would just lay off for a while and try again later. My DS is just now taking milk in the sippy at 16months (he was using a sippy for water from 6 months on). My pedi said the big issue with bottles and oral problems is when they are going to sleep with the bottle/or having it for nap time and the teeth are bathing in milk product. He had no issue with using it to drink for the regular bottles. In fact he said a sippy cup/straw cup really is no better for oral developement ( a regular cup is the way to go when they are ready)

DD is 12 months. She has been "sipping" from the sippy cup since 6 months, but that's all she will do - she won't drink a substantial amount from it. Honestly, I am not in any rush to push the issue, and I don't think another month or few will be that detrimental. Good luck!

At about a year old, we did regular cups.
Kids adjusted. Cut out bottles completely.

I am always such a tough cookie. I stand my ground, and my gut tells me to keep at it. I am just torn because I am throwing away formula which means nutrients and money. I am stressed about this because I do not ever waiver or give in. I just feel like putting this one to rest for a few weeks and revisit it when things calm down.

Thank you so much all of you who responded with some advice. I really needed to know that this is ok.
