This is what car seat safety said in the other post on here....so that's why I said no center....

"Most cars on the road the center is NOT possible. Over 50% cannot do center. Depending on the car and if the seat is rear or forward facing the middle may or may not be an option. Many car manuals will say the center is a location, but that is not the case.

The majority of SUV's cannot have center installation. The split of the seat comes into play in many cases. Most upper end cars cannot have seats in the center. The Jeeps do not work well in the center.

Many cars the center is not truly center but off to the left or right of center. Also in some cars the center seat belt configuration is too narrow to accommodate some seats.

Small cars cannot do rear facing in the center because if touching or interfering with the driver seat.

If we choose side we normally choose the passenger side for a variety of reasons including fewer crashes are on the passenger rear than the driver rear.

Long and short of it is that a properly installed seat on the side is safer that one not placed correct in the center. If you have a specific vehicle that you have a concern with, I will let you know what problems may exist.

Is he referring to carseats or booster seats? I know carseats are much trickier with the latch, installation, etc. A booster seat doesn't really get "installed" as semi permanent, like a carseat does. I would think a seatbelt is a seatbelt.

I'm not sure why a booster seat with a person in a seat belt couldn't be in the middle if that seat is also intended for passengers without booster seats. A carseat I can understand. I'm obviously not an expert though. It's very confusing.

He told me to put my booster on the passenger rear.

Well, I don't put my DD in the middle, because my DS and her need that space between them to minimize the bickering Chat Icon But, I don't fault anyone that does, provided there is a lap/shoulder belt. Especially since that is what the manual says. Vehicle manuals often mention carseats and latch, etc., and no center seat. I haven't seen that language for booster seats though, at least not in our manuals. So if it's truly unsafe, the public needs to be made aware of that and maybe the manuals need to be revamped for these booster seats.

The booster seat was placed back in the car after the accident.... That is how it ended up behind the drivers seat... I don't like LBB for younger kids. Heck I don't like them for older kids either.. They don't work well with all typed of cars and seat belts.. And they are way too easy to get out of...

How do you know it was in the center though just using a lap belt, do you know them? I haven't seen that reported in my quick search.

It was on the news... I didn't know them but I do know people who were there..
