WWYD - Car Seat Related

Thomas turned one in April. He is still rear facing in his infant car seat. The maximum on his infant seat is 22 pounds and 30 inches. At his one year check up, he was 19 pounds 5 ounces and 28 inches.

Would you keep him rear facing in his infant seat until he reaches the max, and then face him forward in his convertible seat (Britax Roundabout in the box waiting to be opened), or would you put the Roundabout in now, rear facing, and then turn it in a few months or so?

Once we put him in the Britax, we will have to buy another carseat for DH's car for the days when he picks Thomas up from day care.

Thanks!!

I would keep him in the infant seat for now.

Personally, I'd put him rear facing in the roundabout, unless you still have the super mom strength to take him in/out of the car in the infant seat.

ETA: Which car is he in more? I'd put the roundabout in there and keep the infant seat in the other car until he grows out of it totally. either way, sooner or later you'd have to buy another carseat if he's always in both cars.Chat Icon

He's definitely in my car more. It's the family car, and I take him to day care every morning. DH picks him up from day care 2 - 3 times a week. That is a good idea to put the infant seat in DH's car until he totally grows out of it. I didn't even think of that! Chat Icon

What I would (did) do, is put the convertible seat rear-facing now, and leave it that way for the next 6 months, turning it around when DS is closer to 18 months.

I also don't like getting too close to the weight limits. If you try to get as close as possible to the 22 lbs, you may be over the limit, or your (or your Dr's) scale could be a little off. I realize that if the manufacturer says 22 lbs, it's good for probably 28, but why chance it?
