Delivery and visitors
what are your plans for visitors? i don't want to be overwhelmed by visitors but also don't want to tell everyone they can't come. And i plan of BF which i do not want visitors in the room for as i'm learning. Also do you let everyone hold the baby when they come to the hospital?? i'm not thrilled with passing the baby around when its only a few days old and in the middle of winter!!

The way I see it the more the merrier. I would be honered to have my loved ones come to meet our LO. As far as passing the baby around- they are kep so wrapped in the hospital that you would never really touch the baby's skin. I have no problem since again, it would be family and close friends there not strangers.
If you do not feel comfortable, just make sure you let people know ahead of time that it's best if they visit you at home.

the hospital usually has pretty limited visitor hours just for that reason. You don't want people coming and going all day long. The nurses will work with you to do a feeding either before or after visiting hours.
What hospital will you be at?

NSUH...the hours are from 11am - 8pm which is why i am concerned, that is pretty much the whole day!!! i guess i could always set up my own visiting hours to tell people.

I was just reading the hospitals visiting hrs. I kinda remember with Gillian they let everyone in all day/nite. Except adam got kicked out at 10pm...go figure. Rules against daddy.

When I had dd she was born at 10pm...all too perfect! Everyone went home immediately and I had a nites sleep. This time I am in trouble. Csection is 130. I am worried myself.

I had Ds in the middle of winter - during the year that everyone was super concerned with swine flu.
There is hand sanitizer in the room that people can use as soon as they walk in - our nurses told us to tell people they must use it.
My visiting hours were 11-8. Since I had a vaginal delivery and had DS at 9:10pm on a Monday and left the hospital on Wednesday afternoon, that only left Tuesday for visitors.
Since there wasn't much time - the only people who came were my parents, my inlaws, my 3 aunts and my cousin. Nobody overstayed their welcome.
The thing I hated though about the long visiting hours was that the mornings were crazy with people from the hospital constantly in and out of my room to try to get everything done before visiting hours (nurses/pa's to see me, hospital photographer, pediatrician, etc).

I dont mind friends and Family coming up to see me, I will tell the nurse to put the baby in the nursery when visitors come, except for grandparents. I too will be having my  after christmas, so I'm nervous about the flu and colds. I'm also EBF but its my 3rd baby so I'm a pro at hiding my boob now lol

I had DS in late December so I understand. These were my rules
- no one in the l&d room except my husband. My BIL snuck in though for a little bit.
- After the birth NO one from the family could hold the baby before me except my husband. I had an emergency c/s so I'm gad this was in place!
- Visitors the first night, immediate family only and not everyone could hold the baby.
For the hospital stay no one before noon or after 8pm. I had a private room too.

I'm not having anyone except for our parents.. if its the weekend.. then maybe BIL and his wife.. and I'd rather not have them there either.. I'm a germaphobe and I know it will come across as an a$$ but I'm sticking to the no visitors rule.. even at home for atleast 6 weeks.

I know I will be anxious to show her off to everyone but at the same time I will want to relax. In the hospital I will we at, the baby wont be in the room when other people (besides grandparents) are allowed in. When we get home I want people to visit but I know I will also want my time alone to enjoy her and get use to things. Nothing wrong with being honest with people and telling them you're not in the mood for company.

I should be delivering at South Nassau (due in April but they are my #1 choice) and their visiting hours are 1-8 as well. I'm fine with whoever wants to come and hold the baby. If I end of delivering during a weekday, most people will be at work during the majority of that time anyway. And if I deliver on the weekend, then the more the merrier. That's what the hand sanitizer is there for. JMO.

DD was born at 5:39 in the morning and my family had been waiting for almost 24 hrs in the waiting room, so my dr let them all in the recovery room to see baby and I. I thought it was awesome. I loved having people come to visit, I hate hospitals and it made me feel better to see everyone. I had 10-12 visitors 2x a day. Everyone held the baby after they washed their hands. I never minded.
