Can you retile your bathroom....
without ripping out the toilet and vanity first? DH says it cant be done, Im not so sure. I think it just may be more work and he doesnt want to do it. LOL.
Heres the thing.....LOVE my bathroom, HATE the tile. Its the same tile as when we bought the place. The tile itself isnt so bad, its a neutral tan tile. However there are several cracked ones, the finish is off others and the grout has seriously seen better days. Everything else is just fine though so I dont want to have to rip everything out to redo tile in a tiny bathroom.
Can it be done? How?
ETA: reason #2 Im against the rip out is bc its our ONLY bathroom so I cant not have any working plumbing in there.

Re: Can you retile your bathroom....
we used empire carpets, they do tiling too. They tiled over our current floor and didn't have to remove anything

Re: Can you retile your bathroom....
You may be able to tile around it, if you can remove the previous tile without needing to remove the fixtures.
It is not the ideal way to go about tiling a bathroom, as you would ideally tile behind a vanity, etc but it would depend on the bathroom to see what you could get away with. Or you could remove the vanity, and then just put it back.

Re: Can you retile your bathroom....
you can, but i wouldn't.
a new toilet is easy to install and so is a vanity. if that's all you got, it can cost you under $200.00 to do.
we re-did a bathroom and i LOVED the tile on the floor, so told DH don't redo the floor. he still blames me for it b/c we could have had a completely new bathroom...

Can not be done! The best way to do it is to do it right the first time so that you are happy with it!
My suggestion...go stay at your mom's for a few days while it is being done!

Re: Can you retile your bathroom....
I retiled the bathroom without removing the vanity (it's a cabinet vanity, and was custom built by the previous owners.
However, the toilet definitely needs to come out. One, it's curved, so trying to cut tile to match a curved edge is never easy. Two, you want to make sure the floor under the toilet is the same height as the rest of the floor.
You'll spend 10x as much time trying to tile around the toilet as it would be to just drain it and pick it up. I've replaced/removed toilets a half dozen times or more. It only takes about 10 minutes to remove it, and 5 minutes to put it back.
