Bathroom Ideas

We just finished gutting our bathroom and are now looking for tiles, fixtures, etc. The plan is to raise the ceiling up to the roof, get a skylight that opens with a switch and blinds that we can open/close with a switch, lose the window in the shower, tile from floor to ceiling, whirlpool tub, glass shower/bath doors, move the heat to under the cabinet, recessed "shelves" in the shower for shampoo, soap, etc, and 2 recessed mirror medicine cabinets (one above cabinet, one on oppositte wall).
I am really excited to start on the bathroom, but before we start I want to make sure we are not leaving anything out! And we haven't decided on a tile or color yet.
So I ask: What are your must haves in a bathroom? How do you picture your dream bathroom? Which colors make the bathroom look biggest/open but are also easy to keep looking clean? After reading what I am planning on doing to our bathroom is there anything you would do differently? Or think is a great idea?
Thanks so much I appreciate your input!

Re: Bathroom Ideas

don't forget the fan to get the steam out.
personally, i like having as much light as possible in my bathroom, so i'd keep the window in there, but that is b/c i don't like dark showers. a ledge around the tub for candles, cabinetry for towels, lots of towel rods, super flush toilet, handles for the sink, not nobs or cirular handles, heated floors are great but if they need fixing, you are up a creek without a paddle b/c they are a pain to fix, lots of cabinetry for my shampoo/conditioner fetish, the recessed magazine holder is awesome!!!

Re: Bathroom Ideas

Thanks!
We are getting a fan too... forgot to write that!
I can't stand windows in showers!! So we are definitely losing that. Our skylight is going to be pretty big though so I am not worried about the light. My grandparents redid their bathroom a few years ago and that is where I stole a lot of my ideas from. I should post the pics of their bathroom.

Re: Bathroom Ideas

Our bathroom has a jacuzzi tub, stand up shower, double sink that has marble counter top, windows, and tile floors. Everything is all white and gray. The marble is white with gray swirl, white tub, shower and a light gray tile floor with a light grout.

Re: Bathroom Ideas

* Darker floors or multicolored floors is a must - like a marble or stone look.
* Storage space for towels
* Storage space for shampoos, toothpaste, shaving cream, etc, etc ...
* A towel heating rack
* High Hats in a few places (helps a ton to diffuse the light & brighten the space)

Will your skylight open? I've learned it's good to get fresh air in to prevent mold from forming on the shower curtains/doors or tiles.

I personally like these colors in the bathroom. Light beiges and white, but I agree on the darker floor - definitely. Creamy yellows are also nice in the bathroom. This is my cousin's recently re-done bathroom. I like the tile they used.

Are you guys going to do the bathroom yourselves also?
