So upset- diagnosed with PCOS
So, my OB diagnosed me with PCOS last night. The diagnosis was made based on a hormone test that showed my LH level was higher than normal, and a sono that showed the tiny cysts on my ovaries. The office called and told me and I have to make a f/u appointment to determine how to proceed.
I know women with PCOS can conceive, but I am devastated!!! DH and I have been together for 11 years and have been married for six months. We waited many years to TTC, because we wanted to be married, have decent jobs, money in the bank, etc. I got pregnant 13 years ago, while I was in college, without even trying- one time was all it took. I was unprepared emotionally and financially, and my son's father is a POS!!! I went in for what I thought would be a routine OB exam and this is the news I get!!
I just feel like its so unfair

Re: So upset- diagnosed with PCOS
Many women with PCOS have no problem conceiving at all. I have it and I did get pregnant once on my own (m/c due to other issues). Unfortunately my current pregnancy is from IVF, But I have several other issues as well.

Re: So upset- diagnosed with PCOS
The key is being diagnosed early and its good you found out now.
I also have PCOS and I'm sure your doc will go over the best options for you. The #1 thing that you can do to help your PCOS is maintaining a healthy lifestyle, exercise, and eat right!
Good luck!

Re: So upset- diagnosed with PCOS
I have pcos.. This is my 3rd pregnancy within 10 months - all on clomid and hcg shot. I mc 2 of them - (i have other issues besides pcos) Im now 7 weeks pregnant now and so far all looks good. My sister has pcos and concieved her daughter 2nd month on clomid.
Pcos is not a doomed diagnosis. It sure seems like it in the begining but thankfully there are medications that can help us.. Good luck

Re: So upset- diagnosed with PCOS
I conceived through IVF as well but we also had male factor on top of my PCOS. My RE said if there is anything to have, PCOS is the "least worst". It can be very manageable

Re: So upset- diagnosed with PCOS
I have PCOS too- since being diagnosed I've joined weight watchers, dropped about 7 1/2 pounds and started exercising.. I also have limited my intake of all sugars and white breads.
I know it SOUNDS horrible- but the best thing you can do it try and manage your health and you should be OK.
I know I have issues with insulin b/c I had GD w/ my first pregnancy and my dad and his siblings are all either diabetic or pre-diabetic- so honestly, this was a rude awakening to start taking care of me!

Re: So upset- diagnosed with PCOS- Updated
Thanks ladies, my thinking is a bit more clear today. Thanks for your positive words, I AM feeling a bit more positive today. I have a follow-up appointment with my OB in two weeks, and I started following a low-glycemic diet and going to the gym in hopes of losing some weight. I also ordered a couple of books from Amazon in hopes of learning as much as I can about this condition.
I have used OPKs from CD11 and got a + on CD12. I have continued using them to see if I get any other positives, as women with PCOS sometimes get false-positives but so far am seeing a normal pattern. Because of this I am hopeful that I O'd this month and I guess I'll see how it goes.
to all of us
