Upset stomach - side effect to Amoxicillan?
I have a call in to my Ped, but DS was put on Amoxicillan a few days ago for an ear infection and he's been fussy and not sleeping well since he's been on it.
I hear his tummy rumbling and he starts freaking out and then he lets one rip and he calms down.
Has anyone else's DC had a hard time tolerating the antibiotics?

I know i always have stomach issues when i'm on amoxicillan. So could be.

yes - that can definatly upset the stomach - and it can also give explosive poops!!!

I won't let DD's ped give her amoxicillan because she has a horrible reaction to it. It caused her more discomfort than the ear infection it was supposed to treat! 
So yes, it's definitely possible!

I don't remember which antibiotic DD was on (I have the info at home) when she had her UTI, but the first time I gave it to her, about 20 minutes later she threw it up all over the place.
I've learned to only give her antibiotics on a full stomach. So, it sounds like that's what it could be for your child too.

DS was miserable when he was on Amoxicillan. His tummy hurt, he had explosive diapers and he couldn't sleep. I felt so bad for him. He took turns holding him all night because he was just so miserable and he had just turned a year old so he wasn't a little baby. Luckily he has only had the one ear infection.

if it continues see if the ped. can recommend a probiotic to help. They prescribed Florastor for my son (added to his bottle) but I think you can get something like that at GNC.

Yes, DD's stomach rumbled sometimes and her diapers were very loose on Amox.
I called the ped to tell them(b/c one diaper was VERY loose), just to make sure it was ok to continue with them.

DS had a really bad stomach and diarrhea on a different antibiotic. We had to replace his solids with yogurt and give him acidophilus (a probiotic) to help replenish the good bacteria in his stomach that gets killed by antibiotics.

That's exactly how DS has been. I'm still waiting for a call back but maybe I'll give him some YoBaby in the meanwhile.
