So upset - DS diagnosed with hydrocephalus
I have been crying all day - my ped. wanted DS to have a head sonogram b/c his head was measuring a little big - borderline big. IN fact, she wasn't even going to have him have one, but just did to be safe. Today we did the sonogram and they found fluid. When she called to tell me, I actually thought I was going to vomit. Now we are making an appointment with a neurologist to figure out our next step. The dr. was shocked b/c he has no symptoms and he was boderline big. She did not seem worried and said he will be fine and that he will grow up to be a normal child, but there is a possibility he could need a shunt. She said don't go on the internet b/c it will drive you crazy - of course, I did - now my head is spinning. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any prayers would be appreciated.

My ped sent DD for a head sono as well b/c her head was boarderline big but she was lucky that it was negative. I don't have any other experience... Sending you lots of prayers and hugs!

I have no experience but think you should follow the advice of your ped-the internet is filled with worst case scenarios and it sounds like your doctor is pretty optimistic about it

thanks - I just can't believe it came back positive - i am in total shock. The dr. really calmed me down, but now I am completely freaked out by what I read on the internet. The thought of surgery and a shunt is making me sick.

My co-worker's daughter has a shunt. She's had it since she was months old & is now 4. The doctor did attempt to take it out last summer but it didn't work out so it's staying in for now.
She's gone to Schneider's regularly & has the same surgeon for years. If you want me to have her email you, FM me an address. I'm sure she would be a wealth of information & would be more than happy to help.

I know what it's like to have a sick child and just think of the worse. I know it's easier said than done, but try to think positively. I totally agree with not looking stuff up on the internet, it will drive you crazy and make you worry more. Trust your doctors and ask questions and lean on your family for support.
