Re: Spinoff: What Makes a Tattoo Trashy?

Come on guys no name calling...
My post was not to stir drama up or offend. I was using the specific term others were using.
I agree the word "trashy" is a nasty, rude, demeaning word. Unfortunately, some were using it so I wanted to know why they thought tattoos were "trashy".
Let's keep this debate clean and keep the comments above the belt.
Unfortunatelly, the same person likes to act as everybody else is starting drama when in fact there was no drama until she came on board.
You indeed did not start the "trashy" word. It came from another thread. But in any cases, "gross, trashy, etc.." will be used by people who don't like things. That's the bottom line. You opened a topic and people responded to it with their opinion. We all have to accept that other people do have opinions other than ours even if we feel it's targetted against us for whatever reason.

I absolutely agree 100%. I did want people's opinions and different POV.
I just want this thread to not get too ugly.

Re: Spinoff: What Makes a Tattoo Trashy?
OK, let's see where to begin. I do not think that tattoos are at all trashy. I agree with previous posters that it is a person who can be trashy (their attitude, behavior and overall way they carry themselves) and the tattoo has nothing to do with it.
I do, however, have an opinion (and it is just my opinion) that my impression of someone's tattoo is influenced by their explanaition of it. If someone tells me that they went to a tattoo parlor and picked the first thing off the wall that looked cool to them to permanently affix on their body, I might not care for the tattoo... no matter how beautiful it is. (sorry if anyone on here falls into this category.. JMO)
If someone has a very personal, meaningful explanation of why they have a tattoo, no matter how ugly I personally think it is, I may actually love it. For example, 2 people could have a tattoo of a rose on their ankle. One person can't really explain why they have it and the other person says that their mother's favorite flower is a rose and it is a reminder of their mother... I would probably like the tattoo better on the second person because of the meaning.
My best friend and aunt both have tattoos that I can't stand, mostly because they don't seem to have any real meaning to either of them. Hope this makes sense!

Re: Spinoff: What Makes a Tattoo Trashy?
What makes a tattoo trashy? Tattoos aren't trashy - certain people who WEAR them are. I'm a huge fan of tattoos and I have two myself. What I don't like are annoying whiney posters who incessently stir the pot and pretend they are innocent. And she's surprised that someone called her job months ago to get her fired? That's friggin hilarious... Please LIF, don't ban this one... her idiocracies make for a great way to pass the time.

There is no need to try to convince everybody that you looked great at your wedding with your tattoos.
Just like everybody does not have to agree with my opinion on tattoos and who can pull them off.
i wasn't trying to "convince" anyone i looked great on my wedding day. i'm saying it looked fine and no one really noticed. even my grandma who doesn't like tattoos thought i looked beautiful and didn't think they were a distraction.
and you all can think tattoos are gross, i never said you can't. i said the word trashy is highly offensive.
I think we all got the point that you are offended by trashy; we can all see why. Drop it already, it's not always all about YOU!

Why would you bring this up now, just to tell someone to drop it?

Re: Spinoff: What Makes a Tattoo Trashy?
as someone who is pretty covered i will say i am not offended in the least bit.
tattoos on girls imo can most definatly look trashy. placement, what the tattoo is of, how good or poor the artwork is, the way the woman is dressed, how she carries herself all come into play.
fact of the matter is tattoos are only beomcing common now. although women had tattoos back in the day it wasnt as it is today where no one blinks an eye.
they arent known for being girly or feminine.

Jes I was in a rare book store the other day & I thought of you. They had a book of all 1920's women that were full-body covered with sailor flash.
If the book was not several hundreds of dollars I would have bought it. It was interesting. They also talked about how these women had to "hide" in places and get inked b/c a lot of artists would not do it.

There is actually an entire sect of the tattoo community that turns their nose up at "cartoon ink." I have no position on it one way or another, but just to compare I may find that I appreciate a talented singer or musician even if I do not love their genre of music. It has nothing to do with their talent and ability.
Conversely, I can like the concept or idea of a tat and think it was executed poorly as well. I think IMO it is just too subjective.

I just don't like them.
I am entitled to that, aren't I?
