Re: Your thoughts on Clomid?
Listen, as I said, everyone is different and the "great clomid debate" will always be on these boards.
As I said, It works wonders for some people and other people need more invasive IF treatments.
My OB/GYN is the head of obstetrics at NS Forest Hills, and specializes in IF problems so I trust him completely.
I will say, that in my experience, now as well as when I was ttc DC#1, everyone that felt negatively towards clomid or thought it was over prescribed was not successful with it.
Good luck to all!!

Re: Your thoughts on Clomid?
I think it should also be noted that MOST people conceive on clomid within the first 3 cycles; unless they have more severe fertility issues. That being said, the fact that you can only take it for 12 cycles total in your lifetime would allow people to have 3 or 4 kids if it works for them.
I got preg. on it my first cycle with DS. Now i am on cycle 4, so i have taken it 5 months total so far.
My sister got pregnant with my oldest nephew her 3rd cycle and then with the next baby on the 1st cycle. We both have Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and I take 200 mcg of synthroid and metformin 1000mg.

Thank you so much for all of your input! I am so lucky to have so many people provide such great information!!!! At this point, I am thinking I should go to the RE for a second opinion. However, my OB/GYN said she didn't believe that I was an "RE" case yet because I have only been trying to for 4 months and just have extremely long cycles. She said she wants to wait to see how I react to the Clomid for the next 3 months before making that recommendation. So now I feel like I am going against her if I go....I know that sounds ridiculous since it is my body we are talking about. I have ovulated each month just not until day 33ish. My concern is I will take this and it will make everything worse! I guess an RE's second opinion is my smartest move right now. Thanks everyone again I am so happy to have this site as a source of sanity!
Good call! I would see an RE before taking the Clomid regardless of what the OB/GYN says. Having long cycles is a good enough reason to see an RE........who knows what underlying issues you may (or may not) have. I would rather know what is wrong with me before taking ANY medication, Clomid or otherwise. Seeing an RE can't hurt..........you will feel better proceeding with any treatment after having a full understanding of what is going on. Good luck!!! If you want an RE recommendation FM me! I love mine!!

Re: Your thoughts on Clomid?
I conceived twice on Clomid (combined with IUI). The first time I miscarried and the second time resulted in my almost 1-yr old twins! It took a number of cycles to get the dose right (4 unsucessful to be exact) - I started with 50 and didn't have any response until I got to 150. I agree with those who say it is over prescribed. It can work very well, but you should definitely be monitored while on it. For example, the cycle I concieved my twins, I had a huge cyst at the beginning of my cycle. If I had gone on clomid without knowing that cyst was there, it could have grown even more and ruptured, which would have been very bad. We waited for the cyst to shrink, and then started clomid. Also, there is a chance of high-order multiples (small, but still a possiblity) if one takes clomid without being monitored . I responded really well at 150mg, producing 4 good follies the first time, and 3 the second. So technically, there was a chance of having quads the first time and triplets the second time. One could respond even better and produce, 5,6,7,8 follies - giving her the chance of high-order multiples (think Kate from Jon and Kate + 8) Because it is non-invaisive ( a pill as opposed to injections as other fertility meds are) many ob/gyns are quick to prescribe it when pts report problems conceiving, but it is still a powerful fertilty med. My OB/GYN actually would not prescribe clomid because of 1) the monitoring issue and 2) one of the side effects of clomid can be the drying up of CM, which is counter-productive. She said that an RE may want to do IUI.
