Would you have tipped?

I got a call telling me that my stylist had a death in the family and couldn't make my appointment for coloring.

Since my roots were worse than Alex Haley's and the next available appointment my girl had was May 21 (!) I went with another stylist.

Got there at 7:20 for my 7:30 slot.

At 8:00 I went up to the front desk and very nicely asked if I would have to wait much longer. They told me to "hold tight".

At 8:10 the assistant, Jason, comes to get me sits me down and leaves me.

The stylist Francesca comes up asks what I'm having done and tells me that Jason will be doing my single process because she's too busy.

Jason proceeds to do my color, slop it all over my face, ears, neck, etc. leaves me sit without checking the color once and then gives me the roughest hair wash in the world. (And not in a good way.)

I think the only thing he said to me the whole time was: "sit back". Meanwhile he was a chatty Charlie with all the other clients.

Francesca comes back when I'm rinsed to check on me and tell me it looks great as I'm trying to comb it out myself.

I left without tipping. For the first time in my life.

I felt kind of guilty about it, but I paid $75 to get manhandled and ignored and I didn't feel I owed them one cent more.

Would you have tipped them?

Re: Would you have tipped?

Not only would I have not tipped, I would have complained to the Manager/Owner explaining why I didn't leave a tip.

No, tipping is optional, and really for good service. It sounds like you had terrible service! I would have done the same thing!

Yeah, it was so late that I wanted just to get the hell out of there, but I was thinking of writing a letter.

It's a really snooty place though. They'll probably promote him. Chat Icon

Re: Would you have tipped?

I would not have tipped AND next time you go see your stylist I would tell her about the treatment you received and that you are thinking about findng a new salon

Just because you arent that persons "regular" doesnt mean you should get treated in a bad way!!

I would have left when Francesca told me she was too busy to do the color. So no tip from me and I would have made sure the manager/owner knew why.

Definitely no tip, I wouldn't had stayed past Francesca not doing it. And I would complain to my regular stylist later on.

Re: Would you have tipped?

You were 100% right.
I am SO tired of these hair stylists who think they are GODS.
Reality check- you are NOT saving lives-you are NOT performing brain surgery.
Where does this snobby, holier than thou attitude come from?
As it is they charge you an arm and a leg- you should at least expect friendly, professional service....

Good for you!

NO way. You did the right thing. You give a tip if someone does a great job. You already paid 75 dollars for the service.

I agree..I wouldn't have the assistant do the color and pay the regular price either. The assistant doesn't have a license. I would not tip at all and I would complain big time. In fact, I would explain that I may go to another salon in the future because they don't kow how to conduct their business.

Yeah - I've been with her for almost 4 years so I'll let her know.

She's great, the place sucks. This experience just confirmed the fact that I go there only for her.
