Would you be insulted?
If your MIL came late and left early to your sons/daughter's christening? Then told your DH that you should have invited more people from her side?
This is NOT a hypothetical situation...

Re: Would you be insulted?
Yup.
I was also insulted when DH took her and group of people out for my birthday to a VERY nice restaraunt and she announced, "Can you please wrap this up, I'm going to bring it home for my dog."

My MIL is the same way...no kidding she's my version of MOnster-In-Law. Honestly no I would not be insulted because the shorter the time I have to be with her the better. Well, I would be annoyed for being rude..

Yeah that would annoy me.
But then again ANYTHING my MIL said in the negative would piss me off.

Re: Would you be insulted?
Would you ask her why she thinks you should have invited more people from her side when she know that you're unemployed? Or just let it die...

Re: Would you be insulted?
Totally. What is with these MILs??????
My MIL (who was raised Jewish but does not practice) came up from Florida for Sarah's christening and then sat in the pew when the whole family was invited up to the alter. She told me that my family forced her to stay back and watch my grandmother (who is too feeble to do the steps up to the alter). Meanwhile she doesn't know that my cousin had a video camera going and I heard her tell my grandmother "I'm not going up there, it's against my religion." When I said that my grandmother told me that she acted all surprised and told me that my grandmother misunderstood, it was my aunt who told her that it's against the catholic faith for jews to be on the alter. Ummm, the priest invited everyone of all faiths up there.

Re: Would you be insulted?
Everything my MIL does insults me. I think because I always compare her to my mother. My mother would never say invite more, or leave early. i would also have no problem telling my mother where to go if she did that. But for some reason, MILs want us to treat them like a mother, but really don't mean it.
I would be insulted, but not surprised.

Didn't you ask her why she left early and she said there was no problem?

Yes, I asked her again yesterday and she said she had to get her nephew home (he's 29) because he didn't feel well. She also didn't say goodbye to me or the baby.

I didn't ask her why she said we should have invited more people to the Christening because she had company over and I didn't want to start anything.

Was that just an excuse because she was ****** that more of her family wasn't invited? Honestly, I don't know how I would handle it. I have similar MIL issues and I'm at a loss as to how to deal with it.

then she is not going to be happy about anything. Always going to be a problem. I can't understand why, but it su cks. Mine got to my wedding late, left early and did not speak to me once that day. Then called and complained that not enough Puerto Ricans are on my video. Some people are just never going to be happy. Did she want to hold Jared or something and you said no? was she at your house that morning? she might be holding a gruge about something like that.

Re: Would you be insulted?
Reading about you MIL Stefanie makes me feel sad for the lady, you and Jared. I cannot for the life of me understand why a woman would be so unhappy with someone that loves there son to do stuff that she does. These should be her golden years and to me she sounds like a very unhappy woman. Either that or likes to cause chaos.
Honestly, i would let it drop. I know its a hard thing to do, but she might get a kick out of upsetting you. Don't say anything and ignore her and she might just learn her lesson more.
I can't believe how many horrible MIL's there are out there. I have a pretty great one. Trust me we did the dance that i think all woman go through with the mother of their boyfriend/fiance/husband in the early stages, but you learn to set your boundaries and now we get along great. She honestly wants the best for her boy and she has learned that i give him that and that is important to her. My Mom is also the same way with her daughter in law.

Re: Would you be insulted?
It's hard to feel bad for her...
it's also very funny (it's really not though) that she's never given anything to her grandson. My mother goes out all the time and picks up cute little things that Jared would like. I'm not a person that has her hand out and expects anything, but you should want to buy something for your grandson...right???

omg that is sooo not right - its funny b/c fh& i always joke that when we have a kid, we won't have to buy a thing, my fmil, future grandma in law and my mom will spoil the kid rotten. i can't see a grandmother not taking care of her grandson in that way

Re: Would you be insulted?
She would blame me if I said something..."You never want to go shopping with me..."
I don't think that I have to be with her for her to get something for him.

Wow. She is totally selfish. You are lucky your DH doesn't take after her. That's so sad, for your son's sake.
