Yup.
I was also insulted when DH took her and group of people out for my birthday to a VERY nice restaraunt and she announced, "Can you please wrap this up, I'm going to bring it home for my dog."

Re: Would you be insulted?
YES!!! But I agree with some of the other girls. Without a sit down coming frmo your DH explaining what he woudl like her to do for Jared- you are not going to win.
My sister was in a similar situation- Her daughter is 3 1/2 months old. They have never been up to NY to see her (they live in Phili) except the day she was born- and they left the next morning (she was born at 11 pm). My sister has gone to their beach house a few times, but her MIL doesn't know how to deal wtih the baby, she holds her for a minute but then loses interest- she went shopping rather than spending time with the baby, and she doesn't know how to change her diapers, etc... Her husband sat down with his parents and told them that he was disappointed in their lack of interest in their first granchild.
But think about it this way- do you really want your MIL getting more involved? It sounds like this woman is more of a PITA than anything else- maybe the more distance the better for you. Maybe when Jared is older she will come around.

Re: Would you be insulted?
I would be very insulted, im sorry you have to go through that kind of behavior.
I think it just shows you what kind of person she is to not say goodbye to you or her grandson and it makes her that much worse to you and others.
People pick up on stuff like that - and they probably don't think very highly of her at all.
At this point as long as your hubby agrees with you in the whole situation and sees that his mother is at wrongdoing - i wouldn't worry about anything else.

Re: Would you be insulted?
YES I would be insulted!! So all those times you asked and she said she had something to do and that it wasn't anything you did, she covering up the fact that she was just upset about you not inviting "enough" people from her side?? That would bother me even more!

Re: Would you be insulted?
Insulted no, ****** off - probably. Truthfully, I wouldn't care that much about the leaving early/coming late thing.
It would be the comment about inviting more people that I would probably respond to with a smartass remark. My husband would be tripping over himself trying to shut me up on that one.
I really like my MIL but have shot back some pretty harsh things (including the fact that her son is eating himself into an early grave, and that I blame her).
I saw a woman in Babies R Us trying to pick out a booster seat for her grandson. She asked my opinion on them, etc. I said "is it your son's baby or your daughter's baby" . She said "my son's." I laughed and said "Then you can't win anyway - go for the more expensive one." She looked shocked & said "So it's not just me? We all can't win." I said "No, not all the time you can't. I like my MIL a lot but bottom line is I'll always feel more comfortable with my mom." She was so thankful that it wasn't just her with DIL issues.
Luckily my son will only marry a girl who will adore me.

It's hard to feel bad for her...
it's also very funny (it's really not though) that she's never given anything to her grandson. My mother goes out all the time and picks up cute little things that Jared would like. I'm not a person that has her hand out and expects anything, but you should want to buy something for your grandson...right???
omg that is sooo not right - its funny b/c fh& i always joke that when we have a kid, we won't have to buy a thing, my fmil, future grandma in law and my mom will spoil the kid rotten. i can't see a grandmother not taking care of her grandson in that way
This is exactly how it is with my son.... My mom and MIL has purchased 80% of Nate's clothes. Anything I buy is stuff I see on sale that I think is cute or just can't pass up.
Stef, she's a piece of work, but you know what it's her loss. How she treats you will most likely influence Jared's relationship with her when he grows up.
