I had a similar situation. I wouldn't be insulted...and I wasn't in my case.
Are they wrong? yes. But there's nothing you can do to change it.

I agree... I have always been a giving person.. especially to my SIL. Things have changed for me.. I try not to go out of my way as much.. and try to do what feels comfortable for me and no more. I would feel the same way you are, but I would try to only give of yourself when you feel comfortable. I had to set boundaries and stopped asking her to do things b/c I kept getting hurt.
I am sorry you're dealing with this!
ETA: i know it's a different situation, but maybe not giving as much to his family for now wil help you feel better!

I really really try not to let it bother me - but there are times when it just really gets under my skin.
My family is soooo completely amazing and loving so I tell myself that I don't really care what happens with his side - but the fact is that he cares - and the things they do just sometimes feel like a slap in the face.
I tell myself that I won't go out of my way for them anymore - but I'm not that type of person so it's hard for me. I guess this is always going to be something that bothers me about them.

I think my feelings would be hurt, if we both had the same type of relationship with the ILs. If she is closer to the ILs, then I probably wouldn't sweat it.
Plus they might feel obligated bc her family is OOT.

We have the same exact relationship. She is not closer to them.
I guess I just have to learn to live with this. So not a fan of IL's.

Maybe your MIL wanted to get to be in control, and since you had your family doing your shower, she couldn't, but now she sees this other one as a chance to take control since SIL family is not around to do it.
I'm sorry they made you feel bad.

I was sort of thinking this too. The other thing I thought is that the flip side of this is that they may want to be more involved in that brother's life and maybe the trade off for future SIL is having them more involved in her life and marriage than you would want them.
It is still insensitive.
