Re: Wine as teacher gift
Posted by BriBri2u
Most of my friends have been teachers for close to 20 years. Think about how many mugs that is? or how many personalized gifts from students - I am taking about the teachers name WITH the students name on it, etc. Would you want to have that many of any of those? AND they get them at the end of the year as well. Most people just gravitate towards these gifts because they are cheap and easy, but it doesn't mean they are the most practical.
If you have 20 plus students in your class, and you get 10 mugs for Christmas AND then another 10 mugs at the end of the school year over a course of 20 years I don't think it makes you sound biitchy or ungrateful at all.
Yes I do think it makes one sound biitchy and ungrateful.
A gift is a gift, by no means is anyone required to give one. If you don't like it, re-gift it, return it or throw it in the garbage, but it is really bad form to complain about a gift.
The women in my office do it too, and I have told people to stop giving them gifts and wasting the money.
People forget 'it's the thought that counts'.
