Wine as teacher gift
My bff just informed me that it is inappropriate to gift wine to teachers. I’ve definitely done this in the past for teachers who I knew were wine drinkers.
What does LIF say to this?

Inappropriate my ass. It's not like they are uncorking that bad boy in class. God, some people are such prudes.

Re: Wine as teacher gift
I don't think it's inappropriate gift at all. I am sure they appreciate more than a random GC.
My only concern if I was giving the gift, would be is alcohol allowed on school property and is it ok for a kid to bring the gift in or you have to give it personally at the end of the day?

This. I would think it would be ok only if you personally handed it to the teacher. I wouldn't think its appropriate to send a child in with a bottle of alcohol.

True. It also depends on the relationship with the teacher. I'd totally feel comfortable giving one to DD's teacher.

I don’t think it’s necessarily inappropriate I would probably just give it to the teacher at the end of the day in case a kid gets into the gift or the bottle breaks. Also depends on school rules and if alcohol can be given as a gift/ allowed in the school

Re: Wine as teacher gift
Idk, I am on the fence. Unless you know the teacher drinks wine socially, I wouldn't give it.

Considering a ton of places sell these labels, I'd say it's pretty common place.

I agree with this. I wouldn’t randomly give out bottles of wine.
For example, I would never give wine to DD’s current assistant teachers because I barely know them.
But her old teacher and assistant used to chat frequently about new wines they had tried and would pick bottles of their favorites up for each other. One of them even sent label pics to me and another mom because she found an affordable Riesling she loved. So, I felt pretty comfortable gifting wine to them!

I agree with this. It's not a gift I would automatically assume was "ok".
I think I'd probably go with something else, just to be on the safe side, unless I was especially close with the teacher and knew for sure she'd appreciate it.

Re: Wine as teacher gift
Well, I'll go against what most are saying here, bc I think it is inappropriate. It's out of context to the school/child setting, and it's not something I would want my six year old pulling out of his backpack at school. I'd do a gift card and leave it at that.

Totally appropriate in my opinion. Even if they don't drink wine, it's always good to have in the house for company.
I would probably want to hand it to the teacher myself, though.

Wine as teacher gift
I keep laughing at the thought of a child whipping a bottle of wine out of their paw patrol backpack and saying “here, merry Christmas”

My son would drop it, I don't even trust him with his lunchbox.

Re: Wine as teacher gift
I’ve read that it’s inappropriate... but I think it is fine. I’d just get a decent bottle of wine. I’d rather get a bottle of wine than a candle!
That said, as I missed the date to contribute to a class present (October), I’m just doing amazon gift cards in a handmade card by the kids.

Re: Wine as teacher gift
If I were a teacher I'd want wine over some other crap gift for sure. Call me inappropriate. And if i had to teach 24 kids all day I would NEED wine. And vodka
Teachers are people too. They aren't standing sober in a classroom 24/7

I cannot fathom the number of candles and bath and body works stuff these teachers must get. My MIL is a hs teacher and gets tons of candles, lotion, ornaments. She hates candles, is allergic to anything scented and is Jewish. I'm sure she's appreciative of everything, but it's of no use to her.

Wine as teacher gift
I’ve given wine to the teacher, she loved it! In fact in her thank you card she made a joke that said ‘I will cherish everything, well except for the wine, because that may be gone already’ with a winky face! Needless to say, she received some more wine that year!
I think it also depends on your comfort level with that particular teacher. I didn’t go the wine route this year with the new teacher.

Wine as teacher gift
If you knew they were wine drinkers not inappropriate. I debated doing it when the kids were in daycare. Now that they are in elementary school I wouldn’t though. First because they are the ones carrying it in and it’s heavy and breakable. Second because I think our principal would frown upon it.

Depends on the level you know the teacher. I would never give my son's teacher wine.

I don't know why people still think lotion and candles are good gifts for teachers. I cannot fathom how many of these items they must receive.
