Re: When you bought your first house....
My first house was a condo. I was single and didn't count on getting married. My second was the house we're in now. We bought it knowing its not the forever home, but we're planning on being in it at least 12 years. It has an ok amount of space, great neighbors, and as we make improvements really seems to suit our needs. But we do plan on moving at some point and finding the house we will retire in.

Re: When you bought your first house....
bought big enough to live in forever if desired but knew i would most likely want to upgrade in the future. location was a huge factor in buying the house. i don't think the privacy of my current location could be easily matched.

Re: When you bought your first house....
we bought a house that we knew we could have a family in and had the potential to expand further if needed, we had to spend more money but we love our house and can't see us moving anytime soon, especially after we've put a lot of work into making it our own

Re: When you bought your first house....
Our house is definitely a starter. We kinda just decided to buy a house when our lease was up and we found out we were pg.
We bought in Chicago and hope to move to the suburbs in a year or so. We've been in the house almost 3.5 yrs.

Re: When you bought your first house....
We bought our house as a starter home -we figured to be here for around 5-7 yrs. We could dormer and blow it out if we wanted to but I'd rather move.
I'm glad we did because it took us forever to decide where to buy and now we've narrowed down the area we want to buy our trade up house in

Re: When you bought your first house....
We bought a 5-7 year house. It could certainly be a "forever" house but we hope to be blessed with more children that it can probably fit comfortably (although one of my cousins lives a 2BR house in Sunnyside and is on his 8th child ). We don't know what the future holds for us but right now, that's the plan.
My parents bought their "starter" house 35 years ago and are still there, but did two major extensions.

Re: When you bought your first house....
We will be looking soon and plan on buying a house that we can stay in if we need to...but we would probably hope to upgrade in the future. My worry is that we will buy a house that's too BIG and end up never moving and never having children (We have no clue if we even want kids right now so it's kind of hard to plan around that) and we'll have this big empty house

Our home isn't considered a "starter home", but we bought the house with resale in mind.

We bought our first house knowing we would live there for 5yrs. We lived there for 6yrs. and moved to a larger home (double the size) and plan to stay here for 10-15yrs.

Re: When you bought your first house....
we bought this house thinking we'd be here for a long time, it has lots of potential. but also the fact that it was a fixer/upper, I don't think we wanted to put all this work into it just to leave after getting it how we wanted it.

Re: When you bought your first house....
We bought a house large enough to stay in forever. We knew we might or might not stay.
Turns out, after being here 5 years and redoing the whole house, it just doesn't cut it for us for a lifetime. Our needs and wants have changed so we plan to move.
But yes, we did buy in case we had or chose to stay forever.

Re: When you bought your first house....
Ours is a starter house, but it does have the potential to expand. We will re-evaluate in a few years and decide which is better for us - to buy a bigger house or to expand the one we have.
